Anyone else consider this a slight tearjerker??

I know it sounds silly, but besides Toy Story 3, this has been the only animated/Pixar movie I have gotten emotional watching. I mean VERY emotional. Not so much that it is a particularly sad movie, but more bc it taps into your emotions so realistically, that it is more of an almost involuntary reaction to get emotional during this movie. For a family movie, I thought it was EXTREMELY deep and well-thought out. It didn't go for the cliché formulaic "emotions" in other similar movies. The whole dynamic btw Joy and Sadness and especially BING BONG, made this kids movie enjoyable by adults.

Most people hated this people. Dunno why.

Correction: Most people here hated this.
Outside of this site, everyone I have talked to in real life and online says this movie is amazing.
Also to the OP, yes, I also cried as well as others, as shown by the many threads on this board filled with people saying they cried.

O.T.
Shychick, the silent majority loves this movie. You're just hearing from a vocal minority. And even on this board, most people here actually like it. You are just focusing on that vocal minority that keeps making post after post. I wouldn't mind so much if these people expressed distaste for the movie, because you can't please everyone, and if they want to voice it, fine. Freedom of speech is great. However, they seem almost relentless on trying to get their voices heard that they hate it. I don't know why, but it's annoying. Really, why is it that important that they get their voices heard? What will it accomplish? Why do they even care? I just get the feeling they think that, if they don't like it, no one should like it, which is pretty arrogant. Again, if they want to do that, i have no power to dictate what goes, so go ahead. It's just annoying, and I am just saying it gets them nowhere.

But anyway, let's not spend too much time focusing on these posts here as it's a bit too off-topic. If someone wants to discuss this subject further, start a new topic and claim it in response to this one.

Back on topic. I agree. It is definitely up there with toy story 3.

Yup, totally agree. When Joy fails to cheer up Bing Bong but Sadness gets him to cry it out, when Bing Bong sacrifices himself to be forgotten, and of course the ending all get me. And lots of smaller moments in between keep my eyes wet - it's ridiculous! Lol...damn you Pixar.

The Bing Bong scene was definitely worthy of a few tears

But the ending when Riley and her parents are huddled together I just completely lost it!! One of my absolute faves! Pixar really did well in this one

reply

Agreed 100%, it was very deep for an animation and yes I teared up a bit too. Especially the scenes with toddler Riley as my daughter is the same age and it was just very sad thinking about her growing up and how a day will come when she's not my 'baby' anymore, I'm sure most parents who watched this can relate.

I agree it was a bit of a tearjerker; it caused both tears of joy and sadness... appropriate given the protagonists.

If you want another animation that is likely to cause tears try Grave of the Fireflies (subtitled version); it is the saddest film I've seen and left me an emotional wreck.

reply

Slight tearjerker? On my second time seeing it in theathers my eyes were watery for half the movie. Of course I also had a huge smile on my face so I guess you could say that Joy and Sadness did their jobs very well.

"If life is getting you down and needs uplifting, then please come dance with me!"

When Riley appeared back home after running away and just lost it so did I.

As a father of a little girl, it hit home.

reply

After Bing Bong let himself go and cheered up Joy at the end, I wanted to stop the movie and cry heartily like Bing Bong did earlier. Only because I was in company that I didn't do it. One of the big sad moments in cinema.

reply

I bawled when Bingbong sacrificed himself and became forgotten.
