was the dad/husband too passive?

spoilers..

when the husband goes looking for his son, whom the mormon perp had essentially kidnapped to go practice throwing the football, and finds them at the park, the perp leans over at one point and whispers to the dad something along the lines of: 'i've already replaced you with your wife, pretty soon i'll replace you with your son as well..'

at that point, an enraged husband would've beaten the crap out of the perp or at least issued an infinitely more scathing verbal ultimatum..

why would the dad have been so passive towards the perp after the perp pretty much insulted him and called into question the dad's fatherhood/manhood? was the dad perhaps just trying to diffuse the situation by just walking away so as not to traumatize his child, whom he'd told to get in the car just seconds prior..

i guess i just expected the dad to beat the living crap out of that psychotic perp right there and there to defend his and his family's honor..

in the end, the ultimatum the dad issues the perp seemed much too mild and unconvincing..

it wasn't the fall from her 16th-floor penthouse that killed her, it was the landing

The dad was a wimp. I would've beaten that clown to a pulp for that. He's also a wimp for allowing his white wife to cheat on him and then he ends up apologizing to her. He's a wimp, period.

I'm not sure if you some of you watched the entire movie or not,but he apologized because he cheated on her, which led to them being estranged, which led to her having a romantic relationship with the Mormon. The husband wasn't being passive. He showed a little more restraint than I would have. Try to remember his son was in the car. He didn't want to gamble on whether or not he could have beaten him. What would have happened if he lost or was killed. What would he do to his son. As soon as his son was safe he called on his friends and family to help him. He was the complete opposite of passive.

@tk1891

The husband cheated on her, which led to them being separated in the first place---and he even admits to messing up their marriage because of that. Obviously, you didn't see the film from the beginning. Also, what did her being white have to do with anything?

Firstly, I would like to correct something from my original post. I have no idea why my post says

He's also a wimp for allowing his white wife to...
I certainly did not mean to put the word "white" in there.

Secondly, I did not hear him apologize for cheating on her in the first place, which is no excuse for her doing the same thing but it does make me sympathize with her more than before.

Lastly, his son was in the car and I guess it's fair for him to have concern as to whether or not he could win the fight BUT the point in saying he was a wimp in the first place was because that stuff simply wouldn't have entered my mind. If someone insulted my family and honor the way he did, I promise we would've instantly found out who could win.
