MOMENT IT 'JUMPED THE SHARK'
I enjoyed this MUCH more than it deserved, the little clashes of character, the gorgeous food, the actual 'talk' about food was sheer poetry and even none of this quite came together or made much emotional sense, but it was all rather pleasant. Then, ten minutes or so before the end THE FAREWELL TO HORTENSE at the arctic base went on just a LITTLE TOO LONG and I so to speak 'couldn't stomach another mouthful' of this. I know the exact moment it hit me. When after their little 'burlesque show' for Hortense, the actors stood their telling her how much they loved her and all the delicate flavors of the movie washed away in a flood of Log Cabin Syrup. We have barely been 'introduced' to all these arctic base characters and watching them emote is like accidentally walking into the wrong wedding reception.
