What were they thinking?!?!

Reportedly the original cut was two and a half hours. And this movie feels like it was cut to the bone. Like the flashback scenes seem like they should had more weight behind them.

No real director here, only a talentless hack?
A writer that had no idea what is good about the games?
Producers that are in it just for the quick buck?
No inspiration behind it other than $$$?

I thought it was okay myself but it focused way too much on the present
