Will this be faithful to the games?

Or another Resident Evil?

Bambi + Lewis Skolnick = Disney's Peter Parker

Kurzel and Fassbender said they gonna stay true to the games but they don't give it a video game adaptation treatment

Yes, it will be faithful to the games.

Director Justin Kurzel: “You’re having to invent a story and take all the different elements of the game that sort of land, but also be faithful to what the fans’ expectations are. It is a really big challenge. But at the same time, I’ve always approached this as a film. I respect the game, and I’ve spent a lot of time with the game. But there comes to a point where you have to start looking at this as a film, and how it works as a film.”

“A recurring theme throughout the interview is being faithful to the source material — which is rooted in history and, in its way, more realistic than many similar games — while also translating its best qualities to screen in a way that makes sense to fans and newcomers alike. Toward that end, Kurzel says that "We don’t want this to be a superhero film, we want it to be a film that embraces what it is to be human. All our jumps and all our parkouring, it has to feel as though you’re watching it and thinking, on a good day I could do this."

Kurzel: I think it's the big challenge. How do you make something that exists as a game as a 120-minute story and also set up the storylines and characters? Assassin's Creed is very complex in terms of the Animus, the present-day world, and how that relates to the period world. You're having to invent a story to take all those different elements of the game and also stay faithful to what fans expect. It is a really big challenge.

At the same time, I've always approached this as a film. I respect the game and have spent a lot of time with the game but at a certain point you have to start looking at this as a film and how it works as one.

Michael Fassbender: “You know, we absolutely want to respect the game. There’s so much cool stuff in the game that we’re actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can’t, but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game. But we’re definitely making a feature film, and we’re approaching it as a feature film, as opposed to approaching it as a video game. But I love the world. I don’t really play that many video games, but when I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they started to explain this whole world and the idea of DNA memory – you know, I think it’s a very feasible scientific theory. I just thought, ‘This is so rich,’ and about the possibility of it being this cinematic experience. So I’m really excited about it, and we’re working very hard to make sure that we’ve got the best and most exciting, original package.”

I've also read that they try to be as much faithful to the games as base this movie in reality in a couple of magazines. It's the recurring theme in the articles about the film.

Nolan, I love you forever!

Yup, nice collection of all the important quotes!!

As a die hard AC fan, I am not worried about the film. I've seen and heard enough to know it will be a great addition to the AC universe.

reply

I'm curious. What's the difference between a casual fan, a hardcore fan, a die hard fan, a real fan, a fanboy or a true fan? I've seen people use several different terms to describe what kind of fan they are.

reply

So, the casual AC fans are (most likely) people who have played only the more recent games with no modern-day story, or perhaps people who've played only some of the first five games (the first five are the ones that had a major modern-day story, like the movie will).

The rest of the terms are fairly interchangeable and- at least when I use them- mean either people who have played at least all of the first five games, or people who have played every major game from the start (like me).

reply

Thanks for the clarification.

I've also played every game since the very beginning back in 2007.

reply

My pleasure :)

And super cool, always happy to meet a fellow die hard!! How do you feel about the movie- do you share my optimism?

reply

I am excited to see this movie. I thought the trailer showed a lot of promise. I really want this movie to succeed. I hope they will be able to make the entire trilogy and tell the whole story that they've planned.

I'm really excited to watch the new trailer tomorrow. I hope it's absolutely amazing. Fox needs to really keep promoting this movie in order to attract casual moviegoers.

I was a little bit worried when I found out that all the historical sequences were going to be in spanish. Mainly because I don't want to miss anything.

I just hope the movie does well at the box office. It has some very strong competition.

reply

I think it will be better than any of the Resident Evil films which are only just generic overthetop action films.

reply

I doubt it.
