What were the hologram assassins almost at the end? (spoilers)

It's stated it wasn't a memory, and both Aguilar and Callum's mom appear... What were they? A ghostly apparition? I didn't get it. I liked the movie though.

"There you go Harry, you weren't being thick after all--you were just showing moral fiber!" Ron

Do you remember when Anakin Skywalker, Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi appeared as a "force ghosts" in the celebration following the Battle of Endor?

You cannot explain it, but you understand it.

It is caused by the bleeding effect, and it was shown throughout the movie, but only with that Aguilar. The only difference is that everyone could see those "hallucinations" because he was connected to the Animus.

So basically it was an hallucination by the bleeding effect materialized by the Animus, that symbolizes Callum's change of allegiance. Yeah I get that.

If it helps, all the Assassins who appeared in that sequence are meant to be Cal's assassin ancestors. Hence why some of them looked like Michael Fassbender.

It confused me as well, I thought his ancestors and elder assassin ghosts really visited him, lol!

Maybe the film really should've been 2 hours and a half because it was too confusing on many points.

He became so strong he managed to access the memories of all his ancestors, including his parents. It was somewhat illogical, actually, since he should have been able to access his father's memories even if he weren't dead.
