Wait, so that means that they're probably planning it as an extended cut (or at least a different cut from the theatrical version) if the theatrical version is rated PG-13 and the Blu-Ray is rated R. Wonderful, so we didn't get an extended cut for Warcraft but they're probably doing one for Assassin's Creed?
Maybe it's because of the poor reception of the theatrical version but I'm not sure if it will necessarily improve it's overall quality.
There MUST be an extended edition, because after reading the official novelization, I can confirm that many of the scenes and dialogue were removed from the theatrical release. It would only make sense for them to save that for an extended director's cut.
shareThat doesn't necessarily mean that there'll be an extended edition. The same was true for Warcraft, where at least 40 minutes was cut from the theatrical release (much of was also in the novelisation), but that did not an extended edition.
shareBe that as it may, the novelization is far better than the film itself no doubt. What can I say? I honestly enjoyed it more than I did the movie, and to me it actually did justice to the movie if anything. I absolutely loved it, and its so rich in extra scenes, dialogue, and character development which the movie itself had lacked. This is what the theatrical release should have been. This book elaborated on so much more and now the story behind the film is clear and appreciated for the first time. Nevertheless, I now value the movie more than I had before, thanks to its brilliant novelization. Splendid work as always! Definitely a must-read, would make you love the movie for what it's not.
shareI am in the process of reading the novelization right now. There are various additional details about many of the characters, some extra dialogue, and at least one more scene. Sofia, Aguilar, Maria, Moussa, and Nathan have considerably more details revealed about them in the book.
Due to the fact that most of the extra material so far is non-violent, it is not entirely clear how the differences would produce an R rating. I have not yet finished it, however, so perhaps there are more violent scene later on.
Interestingly, the books mention Ojeda having heterochromia iridum, in that one eye is dark brown, the other pale blue. In the games, this is a common trait of the sage incarnations.
Yes! So many goodies that the typical movie goer would miss out on without the novelization. As for the the R rating, I don't think it's regarding the extra scenes, I think the R rating would be the restore for blood spill. :)
