The "Don't believe the reviews, it was much better than expected" people

You actually want to say why its much better? Because none of you are doing that. The film was terrible and was getting grilled(rightfully so) for weeks. Now there seems to be this big turn on this forum where people think this film is good. Probably people who didnt pay 12 dollars for the movie in theatres and are watching it for free somewhere.

Cause it's not as if, you know, people were entitled to their own opinions. As a fan of the game (back when the serie was good), I was pleasantly entertained by this movie and yes, I gave it a chance, saw it at the theater. Are you going to call me stupid ?

reply

I didn't say anything about anybody being stupid. But i you are that sensitive then get off IMDB. You sound like you are about to cry over somebodies opinion.

No one is calling you stupid, but you didn't answer his actual question either - could you explain how and why did you like AC? What did you find "pleasantly entertaining", in it? I'm genuinely curious because I found it boring, flat, with a number of wasted opportunities, generic and not very inspired.

It had good actors and - mostly - good performances, but it wasted them on a by-the-numbers plot with not-so-great to bad dialogues.

I guess you could say special effects were good - not impressive, but good enough - but then again... it's 2017, basically every huge production movie ever had good (or impressive) special effects for years, now - they even have good sfx on tv shows, for cryin' out loud.

Also... it kind of misses the point of the AC games, doesn't it? In the game, the "present day" part was a way to justify and enrich the interactions and exploration of the past. In this movie, the past shows up maybe three times, for a total of... what? 20-25 minutes of screen time?

Pretty much spot on here.

I liked the actors, the flow of the narration - it was slow at times instead of rushing into hectic action-, the pretty good atmosphere and the story that, although following AC standards (the search for the apple) was motivating enough. Imo they got the balance between respecting the games and straying from them right, overall. Inverting the present/past ratio of the serie was daring but I liked it, after all the franchise used to be Desmond's story, it's only after AC III that the present-day storyline became ridiculously lame and pointless. Finally I found the fact that they kept the moral ambiguity between Templars and Assassins to be pleasant, although it was subtle (but then, sadly, not every game even bothered with this theme, far from it).

"I don't care what you believe in, just believe in something ! No matter what..."

They can't. The movie sucks. Waste of a good cast.

Well I've defended it a bit but on the grounds that a lot of people have said it's the worst film of the year and stuff like that that I think is overboard, even though this isn't a good film.

I mean, I went in with low expectations but I think it ended up being a passable B action film. Even though the director did his best to kill it with all the effects there are some good action setpieces and there is some appeal from the AC premise which is, after all, still pretty unique so you have to work hard to screw it up (Though he really did his best)

The big problem for the film was that everything good in it was the stuff that came from the games, basically whereas everything original to the film was poorly executed. It just gave the target audience plenty of opportunity to reflect on how good a faithful adaptation would have been..

I suspect the problem is that you have too many paperclips up your nose

I throughly enjoyed the film and I saw it in the theater twice and not everyone pays 12 dollars I paid 8.50 for a Friday night showing at 9:00

I thought it was decent. The action scenes were well choreographed and Fassbender and the cast do a fantastic job of filling in a pretty mediocre script. I admit I went in with low expectations but i'm also wondering why people hated it so much. It is much like the game, with finding some magic apple subbing in as a mcguffin (macguffin, forgot how you spell this) for a lot of action. Seems like video game movies don't work partly because fans are expecting much more than even the video game is putting out there.

Trying to create a channel based on interpreting, reviewing, and even giving you something to laugh about film. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance.
