Spacey steals the scenes, but this fails next to "Elvis Meets Nixon"

"Elvis & Nixon" is a sometimes funny, but mostly entertaining film about the King meeting up with President Nixon in the Oval Office. Produced by Jerry Schilling, one of the guys who actually made the trip with Elvis, one would think that most of what we see is accurate but sadly it isn't. At least at the White House. Michael Shannon plays Presley and looks nothing like him. But he is playing the King straight and although he doesn't have the same voice as Elvis he does have many of his inflections down pretty well. Kevin Spacey steals the scenes he is in, and he plays Nixon. This also stars Johnny Knoxville, Colin Hanks and Tate Donovan. This is well worth checking out if you are an Elvis fan, or if you are just interested in how a human being could write the President and end up meeting him the same day is a feat I am not sure anyone could have done other than Elvis. This has better actors in it, but the better Elvis and Nixon movie is "Elvis Meets Nixon". ** 1/2 out of 4 stars

So you say its not accurate and then fail to explain. Fail.

Elvis Meets Nixon was just too campy. The guy who played Nixon reminds you of the worst Nixon impersonator from 40 odd years ago and he kind of ruined it for me.

I'm a big fan of Elvis Meets Nixon from 1997. I've seen it dozens of times. It's one of my remaining VHS movies. I knew Elvis & Nixon would be quite different in style and humor. It was interesting to see and compare the similar events in both films.

I agree, the 1997 TV/Movie is far superior to this version. 2016 version was very stale. I thought Kevin Spacey was great as Nixon, but Michael Shannon as Elvis just didnt cut it for me. Played him very somber and with very little energy.

The snarky commentary from the gnome-like Dick Cavett ruins Elvis Meets Nixon. Same goes for Graham Nash.
