The ending made sense * Spoilers*

just not to me. Who can help me figure out what was going on? How long did it take for everyone else to wake up? What was their next move? Did they explain that in the news broadcasts or something? Did they explain what Cartwright did with Bauer? Who or why or where did all those bones come from? How long were the techs down there initially? How many sleepers were being housed in all? I think I counted 8 levels.

(thanks for the responses)

Why you hit us with the bait and switch! lol

I thought you had a take on that ending. I was wrong.

Some of these questions are not important to understanding the ending (or movie for that matter). How long till they woke up? Many years later. What was their next move? "Restart civilization." What did he do to Bauer? He killed him with morphine. Who were those skeletons? The other people from the other sites that were destroyed. How long were they down there initially? Awhile. How many sleepers were being housed total? A lot.

Grrrrrrr or is that just a stuffed animal?

Still didn't answer the question. We know all the other stuff.

What I don't get is why they all woke up.

We see Cartwright has aged significantly. So we can safely assume he had been doing this for quite sometime after Bauer(Reedus) death.

The air quality must have improved and perhaps that is why they were woke.

But why did he initially leave Bauer to almost die. What happened that he did this. I do believe this was after Bauer decided he wanted to kill off someone in order to save Cartwright and provide him with another sleep quarter.

Now that I think about it, after recalling him staring at his wife's picture from the video, Cartwright realized it was either him or Bauer and he did not want to loose his wife and never see her again. So initially when it malfunctioned he was going to let him die, but then had a change of heart. His wife's voice in his head convinced him he could solve the problem and save them both; however, once Bauer saw the tape there was no going back for him. He felt betrayed and felt he could no longer trust Cartwright, even though Cartwright had a change of heart.

Before they wake up they cut to the gauge on the control panel showing the air outside is no longer dangerous. Then the system starts to wake the sleepers up.

He was going to let him die because his first impulse was that "there's only going to be one bed left and i have to survive for her." You can see in his face as he's putting Reedus into the bed that he's going to kill him.

Now what everyone seems to be getting hung up on is that they think he was saving him when he cut him out, but he really wasn't. He may have had a change of heart as you say, but I don't think he was really trying to save him. He thought he was dead, he waited till he stopped moving to take any kind of action. He was feeling the pangs of regret and the emotional turmoil of letting him die. It was more for his sanity, so that he could live with it. You can see the intent in his face of what he's about to do when Reedus is getting into the bed.

Also Reedus only suggested killing one of the sleepers after the attempted murder and there was no way to fix the bed.

I'll try to answer the questions best i can - This mainly based on what i thought

- it seemed there was a nuclear war and they were in the middle of a nuclear winter.
- cartwright mentioned a formula for how long it would take the atmosphere to clear about 100-150 years.

- The broadcasts were vague at best but it gave an idea where the war began which was in asia.
- I presume he left bauer where he was since he would just turn to bone eventually.

- The bones in the tunnel maybe interpreted but here is my thoughts...Cartwright mentioned there are been some earthquake activity. Maybe, this interrupted the sleeping cycle of the other technicians and they were trying to find away out. However, due to the high radiation and lack of radiation suits they all eventually died. It looked like they were trying to get into cartwrights and bauers area.

I hope that sheds some light on what could of happened.

The population was killed by chemical weapons (the blue dust). There was no nuclear war, so no radiation.

I thought it was mentioned in the videos sequence that described the destruction of Tel Aviv the poisoned air was a hybrid contamination of both chemical and nuclear contamination. Probably a doomsday weapon. Seemed the blue dust was ash from the fallout that carried the contamination far beyond the blast site.

The city skyline clearly showed destroyed skyscrapers, so nukes probably were used.

Okay, here's the deal (it's actually pretty straightforward). Cartwright (not sure about the names) wanted to be with his wife, and he was trying to keep hope alive, but he was clearly losing it with time (Hope. Not his marbles. Though he was losing those too). So, he took it upon himself to make a vacancy for his beloved by whacking his partner. He probably made a hole or something in the cover of Bauer's sleep-unit-thingy. He was ogling his wife's picture in order to steel himself against Bauer's pleas for help as he was dying. Well, eventually he figured he couldn't go ahead with it after all, so he rips off the sheet and saves Bauer. But the sleep-unit-thingy is still ruined. Now there's one unit, and only one of them can use it, and that's the whole thing in a nutshell. Cheers!

tl;dr – Cartwright sucks.
