Was anyone snubbed at the memoradum?

Usually at least one person is. I didn't notice anyone this time.

yeah, Michael Gough, a fine British actor, played Alfred in the "Batman" Movies and Jeff Conaway of "Taxi" fame. Plus they should have done more for Elizabeth Taylor, a huge star and the first one to speak out about AIDS, thye could have had Colin Farrell do it for all I care! She deserved more, a great lady and a great friend and a great actress!

Let's add Michael Sarrazin to your list.

No. The role he was most known for was playing Kennicky in the movie Grease.

Harry Morgan?

I was very upset that David Kelly (Waking Ned Devine, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Greenfingers, to name a few) wasn't included. He passed away a couple of weeks ago. I forgot that Michael Gough had passed away - they didn't include him either? Sheesh.

I didn't agree with them tossing Whitney Houston in the mix, I'm afraid. While it is a shame, it's not as though she had a long career in film like Elizabeth Taylor did.

Harry Morgan?

The porn director?

Jeff Conaway was more of a TV actor - not some famous MOVIE actor. Most famous for TAXI, where he was a supporting character and didn't even appear in 50% of the episodes. No reason to mention him at the freakin OSCARS. The Emmy's? Ok - I can see that, but not a night that honors the MOVIES best.

Here you go Rebs! Make sure you look at past memoriams too. Let me know what you think!

I'm glad you liked them Rebs. TCM is very good with remembering those actors of the Classic Hollywood era. The songs that they used are sublime and heartfelt.

reply

They failed to mention the deaths of seven Oscar nominees. How does the Academy let that happen?
They are actress Dianne Cilento ("Tom Jones"), Cinematographer Bruce Surtees ("Lenny"), Production Designer Bruno Rubeo ("Driving Miss Daisy"), Songwriter Joseph Brooks ("You Light Up My Life"), Songwriter Dory Previn ("The Sterile Cuckoo"), Composer Fred Steiner ("The Color Purple") and Costume Designer Ray Aghayan ("Funny Lady").

They also left out silent film star Barbara Kent (who died at the age of 103), French actress Paulette Dubost, Irish actor David Kelly and British actors Michael Gough and John Wood. Several American TV stars with notable film careers could have been included, such as Betty Garrett, Jeff Conaway, James Arness and Harry Morgan.

A few more I would like to have seen on the list are "The Wizard of Oz" Munchkin Karl Slover, legendary fight choreographer and stuntman Bob Anderson ("Star Wars" and "The Lord of the Rings") and effects animators Corny Cole (WB's "What's Opera Doc?") and Dorse Lanpher (every Disney feature from "Sleeping Beauty" to "Home on the Range").

I realize that "In Memoriam" has limited time, however I think a few more exceptional individuals (from at least 200 notable film professionals who died since the last Oscar show) could be added.

reply

Again, how was Jeff Conaway's film career 'notable'???

reply

I'd be more interested in seeing Jeff Conaway (who was in at least 4 popular theatrical feature films) than marketing researcher Joseph Farrell (who was in 0 films).

reply

The Academy needs to compare notes with TCM's memoriam. TCM never miss people, and the tribute is 100% better!

The responses on this board covered all the bases of what I noticed.

But I will be honest that I was kind of pissed off that they included Steve Jobs.
I was also kind of pissed they didn't include stuntman and Jackass Ryan Dunn.
