Was the ceremony better than last year or worse?

Was the ceremony better than last year or worse?

I liked it much better than last year, Billy Crystal is a great host and in general it was fast-paced and enjoyable. It is the first ceremony I enjoy since Hugh Jackman, both the 83 and 82 oscar awards were boring for me.
I don't like that they leave out the songs wich would be my main critic, and I hate that since at least four years ago the oscars are terribly predictable, a ceremony in wich there is no suspense regarding the future winners is essentially boring and dull to watch; however this isn't fault of the tv show, it is fault of the academy as an organization and it is in part due to the long list of awards that come before the oscars and (as everyone rewards the same people) they essentially kill off any emotion. Considering this lack of suspense that is killing the oscars this ceremony was as good as it could be.

I thought it better overall this year -- Billy Crystal was a zillion times better than Anne Hathaway and James Franco (what a bizarre combination they were) and I thought the show was crisper and better-paced. And Meryl Streep won another Oscar and she's one of my favorites, so it was worth it for that. They've been gradually cutting back on the duller stuff -- the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian award and the technical awards are given at separate ceremonies now. They should add the awards for sound and music to the technical awards and cut another half hour off the show. There's so little original music being written for the movies anyway these days -- they just add a mix of music to the film that they think will sell CDs. So why make a big deal over the music? Focus on the major awards -- acting, directing, screenplays -- cut the banter and just give the awards. I'm tired of the focus on the red carpet, too. You can see pictures of all the gowns online later.

I agree - except with the original score category. The great music is still written. Maybe I disagree with their choices (I wanted How to train your dragon to win last year and how they overlooked Tron music by Daft Punk is beyond me), but there are still some great original scores composed. Last year, I picked X-Men: First Class and The Adjustment bureau. For someone, not an Oscar material (what is, really?) but it is about a personal taste, too. Music is as big part of a movie as a screenplay or actors. It makes the movie what it is.

I think this ceremony is the best myself with the 3 best moments for reasons:

1. Billy Crystal's movie adventure to the oscars.
2. J. Lo & Cameron's backside moment.
3. Emma Stone antagonizing Ben Stiller.

I enjoyed it a little more with Billy Crystal at the helm vs the James Franco/Anne Hathaway tag team.

My favorite in recent memory though was when Hugh Jackman hosted. I loved the broadway feel of it. It seemed unique. Billy Crystal's routine needs to be changed up for me.
