Since The English Patient won an Oscar.

Yeah, for me it was Shakespeare in Love. But it was right around the late 90s for sure.

I never took Oscars too seriously, it is a great show, I support my fav movies throughout the show, even if I know they have little chance, but as I said I don't care how many oscars have a movie if it's damn good. Like Goodfellas, The Dark Knight(!), INcEPTiON(!!!!!!!!), Inglorious Basterds, Lucky # Slevin, Hugo, Gangs of NY aaaaand this year's absolute snub Drive! And a lot more. Instead mediocre films like The Hurt Locker, Shakespeare, English patient are favourized against the likes of Saving Private Ryan, nonsense.
The Academy gives a *beep* about Nolan's masterpieces, same as what did with Scorsese before aviator/departed. I really HOPE TDKR wins next year because its the highest time to give Nolan Best Director + Best Picture.

Me too. This is a trade show for the big Hollywood studios. They've got virtually nothing in common with me. If they all went bankrupt tomorrow, my world would be a better place - and the Oscars would be gone.

Anyone visiting this board never stopped caring, no matter how stupid the awards are, and no matter how lame Billy Crystal was last night with his botox face (time for him to retire from hosting).

When I saw Billy Crystal or my name is "Cristal" bitches!!!...as in..I'm named after a champagne or a really good stripper!

Oh yeah...as I was saying...I stopped caring about the Oscars when I saw Billy Crystal doing a commercial for both Cialis and Rogaine at the same time!

Actually, I stopped caring this year :))
I used to have a marathon right before the Oscars and see all the movies that were nominated.
This year, I've only seen Hugo, The Help and Midnight in Paris, and I was disappointed in all of them, well, The Help was better than the others but I didn't "love" it as in "I will watch this again sometime...". Oh, I forgot My week with Marilyn, that was actually good, I liked that one but except for Michelle Williams' nomination it didn't get anything if I recall correctly.
So, either I've grown and don't care for movies anymore or things have changed to worse this year...
You're right about Drive, it should've gotten something...
About The Dark Knight - action type movies don't usually get nominated - I think they only like dramas :))

I stopped caring when The Hurt Locker beat out District 9 for Best Picture.

I will blow that ugly right off your face!

I have to agree with The English Patient winning Best Picture (it was such a dull movie with two dull leads) and Gwyneth Paltrow winning the Oscar for Shakespeare in Love. The movie wasn't that good and neither was she. I don't know who the Weinsteins paid off, but neither film deserved its accolades or its Oscars.
