did they die or not? Ending

I saw picture with a friend and we couldn't understand the ending

I think they did die. The guy closed the door with his tie and then might have killed both of them. At least that's how I interpreted the ending.

I fear trixie maybe right, but until the director clarifies it, I choose to believe that the images shown, revealed that he came and rescued her and that he subsequent images with their child showed that they lived after as they had wished.

She was left in coma, he did not die. I think he came to her to tell the stories and this is how she saw him in her dreams with their daughter etc. while being in coma...

At least that is my opinion and I stick to it :)

I thought it was an utterly ludicrous and lazy ending to a poor and badly interpreted film. Mila had brain surgery and was presumably pronounced brain dead, but of course her 'dream' makes us know otherwise. That romantic Javier could reach her conciousness in a way medial science no longer could. Please!!

The lack of thought in these scenes was laughable. Mila, still alive though brain dead would have been attached to every sort of machine imaginable in an effort to maintain her organs.

Poor film with an even worse ending. never did I believe a jot of it despite Binoche and Ramirez
