I know she was 17 years old, but it seems to me she was a victim of child abuse in some way in the past. I can understand she suffered from Electra Syndrom, but I think her father was kind of atracted to her and I really doubt this was new.
shareI think that's too narrow a view of her relationship with her father. To me it seemed that he was becoming distant from her and she feels this and, not understanding it, needs reassurance he loves her still. Her father was attracted to her but he makes great efforts to not give in to the attraction. When he kisses her, in a moment of wayward passion, he kills himself. These are not the actions of a child abuser.

Yes, maybe called it child abuse was too harsh. However, there are some traumas and psychological problems there.

Well spotted! Yes his epilepsy and need for someone - Shell - to look after him as a result probably contributed to his suicide. I found the kissing passionate; he may have thought he was kissing his wife/Shell's mother, but it was sexual.

But Shell didn't want him to kiss her. She was trying to push him away. I don't think she was seeking sexual fulfilment by way of her father. I just think she was desperate for loving, human contact, not sex.
