Question..

What does Richard see in the bowling alley that sparks him to want to go and get the flip books? He sees a guy pull something out of a bowling ball, anyone know what that was about?

"I'm a reasonable guy. But, I've just experienced some very unreasonable things."

reply

Yes ı wondered that a lot too! because the same scene was in the long version too

reply

More than likely drugs. The whole scene was set up to show Richie's state of mind and inner conflict.

that's what i thought too. drugs. which leads the viewer (and Sofia) to erroneously think the reason why he suddenly goes to the seedy apt. is to score

For me, he was trying to show her something he did that he considered to be "of note" . Yes, they were dark and gloomy but Sophia ( the girl in the book) always got up after she was killed so Sophia couldn't be kept down.
He did 60 of them ( in the full version) pretty damn impressive.
His spare time wasn't always spent hunting down drugs and having paranoid delusions.

You're overreaching. You can't combine the two movies like that. Curfew works on its own even for being so short. Yes, it was drugs the guy took out of the bowling ball. And it oddly reminded Richie of his old apartment where he probably used to do a lot of drugs and that reminded him of where he left the books. We never knew how many books he did in Curfew. I had the impression that it was only a few. But the feature had him with 60. I thought that was a bit too ambitious for his character. It would take too long to compare and contrast the two. Maybe I'll do it little by little
