Has the dumbest scene in a non slapstick comedy film.

Theres a part where the kid is on top of the freezer, which contains Samuel L. Jackson, that is being carried by the helicopter. So the bad guys decide to, in an effort to shake the kid off, drag the freezer through the forest. Yes, you read that right.

The bad guys thought it would be a good idea to lower something that is attached to their helicopter into a dense forest. Keep reading that till it registers.

And if that isn't already bad enough, during this scene, which had to have been written by mongoloid chimps, the cargo not only doesn't gets caught on anything, Samuel L. Jackson doesn't seem to care that he can escape by merely jumping off the freezer which is about 2 feet from the ground.

I pretty much just left the film as background noise at this point. Just one of the dumbest things I have ever watched in a movie.

That's what I was thinking too. The film-makers would explain his non-jumping as down to him being a scared/weak President, which iiuc was what he was meant to be portrayed as. Problem with this is, Samuel L Jackson would not be a s+w President, he'd be a BadMFn President. Be like hiring Bruce Lee to play a bad-fighter who loses all the time, just not gonna work.

reply

lol they're actors .. they can play either weak or strong characters .. now whether they're believable is another question and up to their abilities as actors

reply

hmmm, but I think some actors have got to a point where they pretty much are playing themselves rather than character. Also, Anthony Perkins being a prime example, if an actor has made such an impression in one role (Psycho) audiences find it hard to buy them in anything else, however good an actor they might be.

Back to SLJ, so either he now just plays himself in every role and himself ain't no scaredy cat, or I've grown so accustomed to him playing a BAMF that I can't see him as anything else - either way, SLJ as a weak President just didn't work, darn it.

reply

It was one of the most interesting points of the movie, SLJ playing a completely different character than he played in his movies since Pulp Fiction. He only said "mother *beep* once, when he killed the bad guy.

reply

I'm with you on that scene. I had the same exact thoughts as I watched the scene unfold.

reply

Why are oh why am I watching this! It just gets worse and worse! H0w did the dad get a freezer there to begin with????
A huge plane is right by them in a lake and SJ has to point and say "Look"...ahhhh!

reply

I don't understand the use of the freezer to transport SLJ at all. The psychopath said that his taxidermist needs the body to be fresh to stuff it. Ok. So the intention given is that SLJ will be killed, put in the freezer, frozen to keep fresh etc. So to not have that happen is stupid. Even the agent is saying that the freezer is slowing then down. Why not just stick him in the copter, there's plenty of room.
All of that crap plot advancement to just give us that ludicrous scene in the forest with the trees that have no branches.

reply

My brain pretty much took a lunch break during that scene, otherwise I would have had convulsions trying to figure out how people got paid to write, direct, and distribute that scene for people to see in a film.

reply

They have to get the President's body out of there, like now, before the entire US military shows up.

The kid is just a wild card they were not expecting, so don't know how to deal with.

The whole movie is just a lot of fun, and isn't meant to be real. You want real - just watch the news.

(Which almost no one does anymore...)

(...because politics in the United States has now become the homeland of retards...)

Oskars problem with Eli is not her ambiguous gender, but her ambiguous humanity.

reply

At one point while they are inside the freezer the bad guy shoots it and the bullets don't penetrate, as if it's made of half-inch thick steel.

reply

The movie about lost me there. I mean POTUS can't jump 3 feet to get away from his killers!?! I understand he's supposed to be physically weak."He can't do more than 1 push up." so I hate him, his lead SS agent states. But geez, that was plot convenience theatre there!

Nah... it got even dumber than that with that freezer rolling and bouncing down the side of the mountain à la Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Then for good measure they steal the bit from Temple of Doom where they plummet off the cliff in the life raft - I mean freezer - to land in the water far below.

reply

when OP watch a movie about a kid hero theme film, you have to expect the movie to dumb down some plot. simple logic.

13 years old kid winning against adults. its not realistic to begin with.

reply

They'll be safe in the plane? Yeah right. And the bad guy uses a bomb big enough to vaporize the plane and the lake. the plane evidently came down just over the hill from where the hunters where hanging out and no one noticed.
And there was originally no hurry to get the POTUS to civilization. They need to go camping and hunting first. And give the kid a bow which he can at least pull back.
An entertaining movie even though it is so terrible.
