FINLAND has NO MOUNTAINS!!!! omg, seriously?!

Since when did Finland get mountains.. here some facts!! Halti is the highest fell in Finland, at 1,324 m above sea level, and thus the highest point in the country. The Halti fell is located in the municipality of Enontekiö in the province of Lapland at the border between Finland and Norway. and it looks like this: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1e/Haltitunturi.jpg

Secondly I have to add that Finnish actors for some reason CANT ACT!!! Its like looking at amateurs role playing in a school play! No body talks like that in Finland, especially not exactly how its written. Our spoken language sounds WAY different!!!!

And American presidents don't fall out of sky into the freezers. And snakes don't take over planes. Who cares. It's a movie.

The boy was ok, give him a break.

reply

Yes, the boy was ok maybe a 4/10 but the rest of the Finnish actors were really bad like 1/10 bad! But seriously if its suppose to be in Finland, they should at least make the scenery look like Finland.. they could've just said that it happened in Sweden.. but yeah.. I think if you make something you should make it look as real as possible and anyone who's been in Finland knows, we don't have mountains!

I've been to Helsinki, Tampere, and Turku ... you guys barely have running water up there. Never mind mountains!

reply

We barely have running water...? What?

reply

Let me guess: american, living somewhere in the MidWest, barely internet access, eating semiprep, watching a lot of TV and NEVER went anywhere in his life. No, you weren't anywhere near Finland, moron. No running water? Maybe you didn't afford to buy it - Finland is one of the most developed and expensive countries in the world, dumbass.

reply

Yeah, not even close.

1. Not American
2. Have travelled extensively throughout Europe; and both St. Petersburg and Moscow were more expensive (what does that have anything to do with anything)
3. Tallin and Stockholm are more picturesque.
4. It was a joke. Lighten up :\

Stop being ashamed of your own coutry. That's disgusting. Chill the *beep* out!

1st of all, I'm only half Finnish and second of all, there is such a thing as TOO MUCH PATRIOTISM!! But that wasn't the point of my comment on the movie.. Do you really think its appropriate if a movie would take place in Honolulu and instead (because of budget reasons or whatever) they would use Chinese people and be like "These indigenous people....."
Finland doesn't have mountains, neither do they have many good actors.. and the only OK one in this movie was the boy..

PS. Americans for example have too much patriotism! (https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/our-humanity-naturally/201503/is-american-patriotism-getting-out-hand) here a quote of a good article:
"Whereas a healthy love of country would nurture a sense of unity and common values in an atmosphere of intelligence and maturity, modern American patriotism has instead become a vehicle for division and aggression. Ugliness in the name of patriotism has occurred in the past in America—the Palmer raids and McCarthy era are easy examples—but modern times easily rival those periods, as patriotism has become increasingly zealous, immune to critical thinking, and unquestioningly militaristic."

PPS. America is a lovely and BEAUTIFUL country, with lots of diversity in culture and scenery, just the politic side is really f*beep*ed up..!! Good luck with Trump xDDDD

In a movie written and directed by someone from Finland...

Whenever a film comes out set in a locale you are familiar with you will always find fault with it.I've seen loads of films of people running or driving through London and they go in one direction and end up somewhere in the other direction, miles away, when they turn the corner!!

It's called the willing suspension of disbelief

reply

To me there's a pretty big difference between someone turning down a street and ending up in a different location and putting massive, Himalayan-sized mountains in a place like Finland.

I live in Rotterdam, Netherlands. I laughed when Jackie Chan was in a car chase in Johannesburg, South Africa in the movie "Who am I?" and then ended up in the "Koopgoot" subterreanean shopping mall which is in Rotterdam.

I did get wowed when he slided down the side of the Nedlloyd building (now the Maersk building), that was a fantasy I had after it got built and he fulfilled it. See this pic:

Movies shouldn't be taken too seriously. Even when they are based on a true story, they usually take parts of the story and ignore other parts.

It's a movie. Sam Jackson is not really the president. It's not real life

Exactly, and we got dumb asses that make everything such a big deal, when it shouldn't. Oh well, can't please everyone. Stay in that hole or under the rock if you don't like movies, and I will just keep enjoying and watching because that is what they are for. Too bad people have to be so damn picky.

I laugh at dumb asses that think nit picking at every little thing.

Rated R Horror movies are better, no matter the argument.

To everyone dismissing it saying it's just a movie, it's still a pretty bad decision. If the movie Cliffhanger claimed it took place in Oklahoma, would that be acceptable?

reply

You mean it DIDN'T take place in Oklahoma? Brad Pitt lied to me!!!

What a strange thread. It's not a documentary Domeniq. Blows my mind that the thing Domeniq found wrong as a representaion of Finland was mountains. I guess the story was fine with him, where a little boy is left in the woods alone with a bow to become a man. That doesn't happen in Finland or maybe it did to you?

Its hard to take someones moaning seriously if they gave "I know what you did last summer" an eight, and "Reservoir Dogs" a two.

reply

I was wondering about that too. No, it's not all right to put Alaska-like mountains with Yosemite-like cliffs in a country that has hardly any mountains at all. (Haltli is kind of scenic but it'a all alone, not in a wild range such as that depicted here.) Sweden has no such mountains either so I am guessing this was shot somewhere in Norway. If anyone actually knows where it was filmed, please post that information here so mountain lovers and cliff climbers can check the place out :-)

reply

Well, according to the information page on IMDB it was shot in Germany.

I've known a few Fins in my time. All I can say is that they all sounded exactly like this boy when they spoke English.
