One minute of the son in the 1st ep made me turn off the TV.

First, the writer uses a clumsy "tell, don't show" device (shortly after the son appears, he delivers an expository sentence or two that gives the viewer necessary background). And, the writer creates a complicated satirical kid-role that no child actor could pull off. Bad bad bad. A pity, because the premise of the show is appealing, and Darren Boyd is a good actor.
