Liked it better when it was called 'Halo'

Im not even sure they are hiding that this is a ripoff -style wise, of Halo.

Glad to see the series is still going strong though.

I like guns, slasher movies, and more guns.

Didnt starship trooper come out before Halo. And space marines done equal=Halo everytime ya know that right?

reply

The weapons and the armor the troopers wear in this movie looks a lot like spartan armor from the Halo games. The armor from the old Starship Troopers films looked nothing like that armor in this movie, so style-wise ripoff of Halo totally agree.

reply

So power armor now a days always resemble the MJOLNIR armor? Well, if you didn't know.. Robert Heinlein basically spawned the idea of military power armor. So *beep* your ignorance. In appearance, the MI might be similar, but there isn't much to go off of, unless you want to add large faces and unneeded crap like they do in Warhammer 40k.

reply

Robert Heinlein set the standard for Power Armor. If only Paul Verhoeven had kept that in the original Starship troopers movie. I heard that budget and CGI related issues were the determining factor in the final direction the movie took.

reply

It's normal for fans to cry ripoff of their favorite series when something new comes about. I suppose appearance wise the suits resembled spartan armor? I think the comparison is minimal at best.

I would be more worried by the number of aliens rifts they took with scenes. Motion trackers, queen bitch, locker room banter, entering the wrecked habitat / ship. Even some shots were pretty much taken from aliens like the stair well and doors opening to the ship.

Btw, checkout out ring world by Niven I believe if you want to know what Halo ripped off.

reply

I've read the book Starship Troppers, the armor still looks like ripoffs from Halo, the armor described in the book is not the armor in the movie.

reply

who cares the halo series has become *beep* and just as bad as cod

reply

Obviously there are still people who care:P

Call of Duty =/= bad

And there is the problem. The book was never adapted well into these films. If they were, I think the battles would be much more different then the run up at point blank and full auto that we see.

And everyone imagination can dream up what the armor looked like in the book. Each will be different, but I have yet to see any real "On the bounce" movement of troopers... it sorta of happens once briefly, were there is a power leap in INVASION.

Thankfully, their is rumored to be a new Starship Troopers movie being based on the book. So hopefully is reflect the contents of the book better.

reply

Of course the armor is not the one described in the books. Its called modernization. It what happens in Comic books. That the current adaption is fit to make sure it goes with mordernized technology. Batman doesnt age but his tech doesnt get old. Its always current. But no matter what Starship troopers was the first series to have space combat suits

reply

The Halo series is based up the original Starship Troopers novel.

halo, gears of war, and even some stuff from mass effect (the queen speaking through the dead trooper and a few other bits). . the halo armour itself wasn't very original though, IT was kind of ripped off of some of the warhammer 40,000 designs, back when warhammer 40,000 was a TABLETOP game. . .

but yeah, the original starship troopers story predates all of the above and the original movie, but there was very little here that wasn't lifted or recycled from various games - watching it was like watching a cutscene, i swear the first ten minutes i was getting ready to grab my controller

Wonderboy2402 and prozac_junior, I totally agree with you guys.

Now tell me OP, who's ripping off who now?

And just for comparison:

The Starship Troopers OVA, listed on IMDB as "Uchû no senshi", 1988.

You do realize that the whole "powered armor exoskeleton" trend we see in science fiction was started by Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein...

Good man read up on your science fiction you look like a total noob.

reply

Halo came 4 years later, so if anything, they ripped the Starship Troopers.

I'm really late to this, but halo was basically a ripoff (I prefer homage) to aliens. On top of that, like others have pointed out, the armour was clearly influenced by the space hulks. I still love halo but it's far from original

Not sure if kid or troll...

Is there a difference between the two?

Or between them and an idiot?
