Would be better if they had made it 100% free of dialog.

I liked this movie alot. But I think it could have been even better if they had been brave enought to make it 100% free of dialog. It would have felt even more timeless.

I really felt that it's a story that could have been set anywere in the world, or even any time in human history. If you take away some modern technology (which are really just props and not that important to the story,) the story could have been set in the stone age.

I guess if you expect an R-rated "rape-revenge movie" you might get disappointed. Because that is not what this movie is. It's a poetic and beautiful portrayal of human nature.

That's exactly what I was thinking. The movie starts out sans dialogue and I thought it was really nice that way, just seeing the thing unfold. And I agree, the plot was of the type that dialogue wasn't really necessary. You could mute the darn thing and easily follow what's happening, and I think that would have been really cool.

I remember being a little disappointed when "the girl" actually spoke the first time. Up until that point I was content to pretend this was "anywhere", but the English dialogue threw me off because although it was clearly shot in Europe somewhere (Austria as I see other people mention), the English swept me across the Atlantic in a jarring way. Yeah yeah, "people speaking english in other shows/movies blah blah" but it was just one of those things that took me out of the movie and made me a mere spectator again, after I was already engrossed. I hate when that happens.

It's like when an actor or some background extra looks straight into the camera accidentally, and they didn't catch it in editing. It's a reminder that you're watching a movie and you lose any empathy/sympathy with the characters that you've built up.

There is nothing poetic or beautiful about rape. You're an ignorant ass for even suggesting it. And before you say something more stupid, if that's even possible, tell me something. Are you one of those people who thinks that rapists and pedos need love and counseling, or just a bullet between the eye? Let's see...
*Mom has a baby girl, probably as a result of her own rape, but never bothers to tell the girl she shouldn't fall in love with the Mayor's son, the girl's half brother*
*The mayor brings the girl gifts because he's sorry for raping her mom, and wants to be in the girl's life???? Please. Rapists aren't sorry for their crimes; that's why you don't have Mothers' Day, Fathers' Day, and Rapists' Day. The mayor wanted to keep Mom's mouth shut so he didn't get booted out of office. I live in Louisiana; this crap is rampant in our government. If he really was sorry, he'd turn himself in and take his punishment like a man.
*I'm not impressed that he was ready to die at the end. He was a rapist, the father of a rapist, and had killed this girl's dad. Sorry?
No. He's had years to sort this out. He had no place there.
The only beautiful things in this story were the scenery and the love between the little brother and sister.
Rape, chasing each other thru the countryside shooting at each other, then a father killing his son for something he probably taught him? I doubt it.
