Season 4 ? On NetFlix now .... owned by NetFlix now too.

I just started to watch Season 4, and it seems to me that it is all American instead of British, and the worse for it. I've only watch the first episode, but it seems different, in a stupified away ... now that the brand is apparently owned by NetFlix it is not as smart as it was before.

And that is despite having gotten Jodie Foster to direct an episode.

I just watched s4 e1 and quite liked it. I have high hopes for season 4. It's off to a good start imo.

reply

Don't believe it

reply

It's a great season, don't listen to him.

I think I might in fact rewatch.

reply

I've seen every episode now from s4 and I think it's the best season. My all time favourite episodes aren't from this season but I did like every episode and I didn't feel like skipping any like I did with previous seasons.

reply

Glad you liked it!

He's out of ideas and what there is is really toned down. No real depth to any of it.

reply

The first two episodes were distinctly American, but the third episode I just watched and it was pretty good. The episode with the fake Star Trek meme was the worst, no plot, no suspense, no point. I don't know why Americans are so bad at writing science fiction?

reply

Except that USS Callister is a pretty darn fantastic episode.

reply

I feel like this is your problem - this season was actually the best yet! The most consistent in terms of quality.

I mean, seriously, the first two seasons only had one good episode each.

reply

Season 3 was Netflix produced, wasn't it?

reply

I am not sure, was it? Show me, I've never noticed the NetFlix brand on Black Mirror before. Up until now this show has been really powerful, in some cases almost difficult to watch, but always smart and clever and with a message, a point. The first episode at least of the new season 4, to me, was a waste of time. The second episode was better, about the technologically over-protective mother, but kind of cliche. The third episode, British I think, about hiding crimes made a bit more sense in the context of "Black Mirror". That's all I have seen so far. The British or maybe European ones always seem more interesting and better, and also like they think their audience is more intelligent.

reply

It was.

The show died down back in Britain, Netflix resurrected it.

Wikipedia -> In September 2015, Netflix purchased the programme, commissioning a series of 12 episodes later divided into two series of six episodes; the fourth series was released on 29 December 2017.

Whatever they did with S3 it seemed more in line with the first 2 and up to the same quality. Have not seen that yet from S4.

reply

i haven't seen any season 4 episodes yet, but i hope Charlie Brooker is still involved... it seems it was his creative efforts that gave the series it's absurdist edge...

reply

Good to know.

Season 3 was Netflix as well. If you don't understand the point of the "Star Trek" episode, you are somewhat dense.

I am sure folks who like Star Trek got a lot more out of it than those that dont.

Watch the rest of them, they are all solid and most of the episodes are full of British accents. I agree that this season is the best consistently, other seasons had at least a few episodes that sucked, like the blue character and the pig fcking ones.

What is wrong with you that you are so many other idiots cannot make a comment without being insulting? Is that what is normal for you ... you parents insulted you all your life so you think it's OK. IGNORED

reply

K.

reply

You have been insulting to MANY others in pretty much everything you've said thus far on this message board.

And we will not survive being ignored, obviously. Not sure what is even the point of declaring something like that.

reply

He didn't really insult you other than saying your dense. He's just saying more people may understand the star trek shit if they are fans but also it's enjoyable l. Also just watch the rest since none of episodes are the same. All that I'm saying is he isn't being super insulting and just saying an opinion, at least compared to others

reply

Why do you feel the need to justify anything, however? That poster above certainly doesn't mince words in his criticism of the show and, by association, his judgment of the fans.

reply

I felt season 3 was kinda weak also. Perhaps they should attract outside writers to bring up new concepts? Same old VR/AI and electronic controls gone bad gets old after a few retreads.
New writers could stay in the vein of the old episodes, but bring fresh perspectives.
