How is Shelby connected to the rest of the group?

I never saw the first Best Man and couldn't figure it out.

In the second movie, it was established she was Mia's sorority sister, but it also established she was Julian's ex. If you saw the first movie, she was just as snobby and treated Julian like crap. Julian winded up dumping her for Candace, which is why she's so bitter to Candace throughout this movie.

@suthyrngrl, The first one came out so long ago and I didn't make a point of not watching it per se, I just never happened to go see it.

I knew that Shelby was someone's ex, but it was kind of unclear to me how she fit in with everyone else because obviously she wasn't going to be invited to an intimate holiday gathering just because she's someone's ex (that would more likely be reason to NOT inviter her :P ). I knew Candace wasn't fond of her because she had been with her husband, but it seemed to me like no one else was too warm and fuzzy about her either. I missed the part about her having been Mia's sorority sister, but that explains a lot if she is good friends with the host of it all.

Shelby, Jordan, Mia, Lance, Harper, Quienton and Murch are all college classmates. The only non-classmates are Robin, Candeice and Jordan's new boyfriend. In the first one, Jordan, Murch and Harper go to a pub in the beginning where Q is playing the guitar. When Shelby shows up at the venue, she refers to Harper as Langston Snooze, Richard Wrong b/c she has read Unfinished Business, his book that causes all of the controversy in the orig movie, and tells him that the next time he thinks about creating a character based on her, DON'T? It seems that Harper wrote about all of the original group of 7 from college which would include Shelby.
