True Story?

Just watched this film and really enjoyed it. Does anyone know if this is based on actual events or is it fictional?

reply

Partly true story

1990 10/13 president of s.korea proclaim a war against crime and violence.
You can see that proclaim at the movie's beginning.

Prosecuter character has roll model (Mr.Jo seung sik)
He was famous badass prosecutor.
Director interviewed him and that help the whole story a lot.

I wasnt aware there was crime in korea. Maybe petty stuff but nothing like murder, rape etc.

reply

Were you serious? You didn't think murder, rape etc exist in N/S Korea?

reply

yes i was serious when i said that but i was referring to South Korea not the north. Most of the murders that happen in SKorea are caused by the individuals own hand. There is not a high murder rate there like there is in the United States, Russia, South Africa Etc.

reply

Oh, I see. Thank you for making the clarification.

reply

No problem.

Guys or Gals,
You do know this movie was based back in 1990 or so. S Korea was a whole different country back then. Almost 3rd world.

reply

Right now, S Korea has the highest rate of rape per capita and also includes highest number of suicides per capita.

With that said I like this movie for exploring a part of S Korea everyone forgets. We didnt have real democracy as shown in the protest scene.

Also, because finding firearms was impossible, using bats as primary weapon was accurate. After watching this though I wonder how much of it rings true about my home country.

Be warned though. This movie has so many head bashing and bat beatings that this movie can be called the human piñata

It seemed to be the only way these guys knew how to make a point.

Someone screwed up or isn't moving fast enough? Better beat them over the head with the nearest available object!
