Last line of the movie

SPOILERS AHEAD: the last line of the movie is JG repeating "same as it ever was"-is from that NadaSurf song from the 90s titled Popular. So were they trying to show that she is still super obsessed with her kid being popular and accepted even though she is still in prison? Maybe she wasn't referencing that sOng at all, just a theory and curious as to what some of you guys/gals think. ;)

The line "same as it ever was" is repeated 19 times in the 1981 Talking Heads song "Once In A Lifetime". Considering JG's character's age, I find it slightly more likely this is the song they're referencing. If that were the case, then other lines in the song like; "And you may ask yourself - Well...How did I get here? And you may ask yourself - Am I right?...Am I wrong? And you may say to yourself yourself - My God!...What have I done?!" could be inferred for her character's predicament.
