Very well written with one MAJOR flaw:

the ridiculous idea that on all of these important days, the daughter & her mother (well, I guess mom missed the last day) were not only there but interacting intensely with Steve right up to the last second. That was too much.

I know it was written that way for a few reasons:
a) to be symbolic of the clash between his dedication to work vs having an outside life
b) to add drama (melodrama actually)
c) to get feminazi approval for the film by bashing Steve

But, it was just too ridiculous. It failed, but it didn't ruin the film.
