Kate Winslet's "American" Accent was...

...horrible. And distracting. Of course, the rest of the movies was so bad, maybe we should be grateful for the distraction.

For every animal bought, a shelter animal dies.

reply

She wasn't American in this movie. She was Polish.

reply

She wasn't American in this movie. She was Polish.

She spend time with Hoffman in preparation for the role, so it's safe to assume she didn't pull the accent out of the air

After seeing this film, I've gone back to watch clips of Hoffman in meetings and interviews; her own accent shifts in and out of standard "American," most typically when she's agitated or emotional

Winslet's take on Hoffman, in that light, was pretty much spot-on

reply

Yeah pretty sure that wasn't supposed to be an American accent

reply

Okay. I didn't know that. Still distracting.

I felt like her accent changed from the first act to the second. Anyone else?

reply

Perhaps in the four years between Act 1 (1984) and Act 2 (1988) Joanna lost some of
her Polish accent and her speech became more Americanized.

reply

Winslet's American accent is usually flawless, so I knew she was playing someone European, even though I didn't know anything about the real Joanna.

Maybe do some research before you assume and rush to insult.

"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."

reply

She has won an Oscar and been nominated several times.....and has had a thriving career for years. Net worth of 90 million for her talent.

What have you accomplished exactly? You've sat on your ass and critiqued movies unprofessionally and even critique other people's posts to make your sad little self feel better? Awe.

reply

And you insult others to make YOUR life feel better. A lot of untalented people are rich, big deal.

I liked this movie and LOVE Winslet, but you're just being an ass.

Also I think that you will soon realize this is my signature.

reply

She had no Polish accent in the first Act but did in the second and third Acts.

reply

You replied to the wrong person.
