Fincher was to direct???

From the trivia section:

David Fincher was originally attached to direct, but was dropped from the film by Sony after his demands - a $10,000,000 salary and full creative control of the project - could not be met by the studio. Fincher wanted Christian Bale to play the lead role. After his departure, Danny Boyle signed on to direct and Leonardo DiCaprio was approached about the title role.
What in the HELL is wrong with studios these days????? Those braindead idiots at sony couldn't recognise a golden opportunity if it smacked them in the mouth!

All of those combos would have been fantastic (especially Fincher directing) but I do think Fassbender ended up being a great choice for the lead role. Not that Bale or DiCaprio couldn't do it, I'm sure they could have. However that being said I really liked what we ended up with. Part of that behind the scenes shuffling had to do with the Sony hacks and Sony giving up the film project to Universal.

Fincher would have been a horrible choice. He would have made it too dark. THe fact he made the Social Network isn't a good enough reason. I liked that film, though I hardly think it's as good as this film.

Fincher is overrated. He's made two good films. Let's look at his movies.

Alien 3: Even he admitted this sucked
Seven: brad Pitt overacted like crazy.
Fight Club: Multiple Personalities 
The Game: Dumbest twist EVER.
Panic Room: never seen.
Zodiac: Why make a movie with no ending?
Benjamin Button: Worst EDITING EVER.
Social network: Great performance by Esienberg, but Garfield was too worldly for the role to be believable. I couldn't buy he was fooled so easily. Maybe the real life guy was like that, but I can't buy him in movie logic.
Girl With The Dragon Tattoo: Okay this one is a great movie.
Gone Girl: Nihilism. Should I just slit my wrists?

Sorry I know film snobs love the guy, but Fincher...kinda sucks.

Also I think that you will soon realize this is my signature.
