my problem with the series timeline

This series of TV movies is, what, 6 or 8 generations long (and counting)? Does it bother anyone but me that the historical period in which "Westerns" is set was simply two short for all of these stories to fit in.

The period begins roughly with the end of the Civil War (1865) and ends at the turn of the 20th Century (1900). So it would be 35 years, give or take, recognizing that a "western" piece could perhaps be set a decade or so earlier or later. The constraints, from the clues found in these films, include the center-fire cartridge revolver(not available pre- Civil War), and the absence of motor vehicles, telephones, and other such technology.

So, allowing 20 years for each generation, that's two, maybe three generations. To place all of these episodes in a historical context and to set a date to each is, basically, impossible.

Not just that, but nothing -- from the set design to the dress of the era to the language -- nothing changes. All of these movies seem set within the same 20-year time period, which of course would be impossible if they did in fact span 7 generations or so.

Ha, yeah, I worked on this and the 2 previous of these films - it's pretty funny, I tell my boss they should be wearing hippy clothes by now...Love's Groovy Thanksgiving is up next year :)

i asked the same questions.. but look its a fantasy so time wasn't an issue......Ellie & Aaron are brother and sister...... clark and Martys kids.......... so lets just say they has ellie way later thats why she wasnt in the second film

reply

I believe that it is only 3 generations. If I remember correctly Aaron and Ellie are the children of Missy and Willie. Keeping in mind that it was not unusual for women to get married at 18 or younger, 35-40 years is a very reasonable time span for the movie series.

reply

It's really only two generations I think. Aaron and Ellie are Clark and Marty's kids. Missy is the only one they show having kids and none of those kids have children by the end of the series of movies.

reply

They were Clark Davies children Arron was the baby born in the first movie from the woman he took in an then later became his second wife

I also count stories spanning three generations. I've actually attempted to build a family tree based solely on the information I could gather on the internet, not having seen any of these films myself.
Hopefully you can see it at this link: http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/32693234/family

PS: If you spot any erroneous info, such as names etc, don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks!

[edit] So, the link won't work unless you have an account on the Ancestry website. So instead I've taken a screen capture of the tree.

I didn't get to see the whole movie....

I think that it's so stupid what my station did....

first of all it's two years later...when the movie first aired

and what does the station that gives them to us do...

cuts it off after the first two hours......then they turn to another movie...

how insane, is that...

Child number 3 was Kathy Lahaye .... Great family tree thank you

Everything you have is correct.

Just some additions that you didn't have
Aaron was married before the Christmas Journey movie and he said in the movie his wife was named Susan.

Clark and Marty had a son named Arnie after Aaron(Son of Marty and her first husband Aaron) was born and before Ellie (who only really comes up in the Christmas film, she wasn't mentioned prior). He appeared in loves enduring promise only.

Belinda and Lee adopted Lillian who was in the last two films, Love takes a wing as a younger girl and Love finds a home as an adolescent.

There are the 3 generations of women that were focused on since Ellie is the same generation as Missy. You could count a total of 5 from Clark's parents through Lillian

Good work on organizing all of it!

Stupid question: Where does "Love's Christmas Journey" fall into the series timeline?

reply

I think it's the last one in the movie series!!

In the books: Ellie was the one who helped her Ma deliver her sister Belinda. After her mother had Belinda Ellie married Lane and they moved west to be near Missy and Willie. Lane was a rancher. Willie's family also moved west in the book.(Love's Unending Legacy) Lane was left a legacy that is why he was able to buy a ranch out west.

Clark married Ellen. They had Missy. Ellen died and then Clark married the widow Marty who was with child. Marty's husband's name was Clem Claridge. When she had her baby she named him Claridge Luke Davis. Clare for short. Then a few years later they welcomed Arnie to the fold, followed by Luke and Ellie, do not remember who is older. Ellie helped Marty when she had Belinda. There is an Aaron, but he is a grandson. The movies really have very little to do with the books other than a character or two with a name from the books. The books do span three generations though. I have read the books a number of times, they are sure worth it!

The books follow the lives of one family through three generations. The movies do not completely follow the books.
