My Review for Rowdy Rathore

Akshay plays a double role in the movie. One as Shiva ,the thief and the other as Rathore ,the cop.Even though the thief role is just like the usual roles Akshay plays in all his recent movie ,its his role as Rathore that steals the show.Akshay being an action hero is completely at ease in this movie.Sonakshi is just eye candy and doesnt do much. The supporting cast too arent of much help either. The kid has only one real role that is too look cute and sad at all times.

The story isnt something unheard of.Its the usual double role story mixed with vengeance for justice.

Prabhudeva once again shows off his style through Rowdy Rathore as he did for Wanted. The movie's main highlight are its action scenes. The first half is not very great ,it trudges along with a couple of songs and some comedy.Added to this is the confusing backstory. But luckily the second half clears up the backstory and increases the intensity of the action scenes. The movie has just the right amount of drama and unlike movies that follow the improbable fights + slapstick comedy routine (Dabangg ,Ready) ,Rowdy has just the right amount of both ,like Wanted.

While the comedy is just passable its the action scenes that provide the most excitement. The dialogues are noteworthy especially in the second half.Punchlines dished out by Akshay as Rathore are fun.The comedy is at its best towards the end.

Overall,Rowdy Rathore is for fans of Akshay , and for those who just want to see some good masala entertainment.

Acting- 3/5
Story- 3/5
Direction- 4/5
Action- 4/5
Comedy- 3.5/5

Overall ---75/100

I saw this today, I paid for me and my friend's tickets, a Total waste of money and Time, I was feeling like I'm being tortured and wanted to just get out of the Theatre and also wanted my money and time back, Its all the same sh!t that I've seen before, I expected more from Sanjay Bhansali, its just like all the other movies like Dabbang, Ready, Agneepath. Bollywood is turning into total sh!t, they make remakes of south movies all the time and think that people will like them. They're not creating anything new, just making money from that same old concept.

Bhansali is producer, he didn't direct it so no need to be expecting it from bhansali. He produced it just to make some money from akki and prabhu deva being in it.

Oh yes, my bad. LOL, and I thought that the one of the few good Bollywood directors has turned crappy.

Indian cinema is totally going downhill and spiraling out of control. Bollywood has became total *beep* Film is no longer an art. The saddest part is movies such as Rowdy Rathore and dabbang are considered superhits. I wonder how low the taste of Indian movie goers can go?

Exactly where does Bollywood stand compared to European or Persian cinema, and even compared to Hollywood?

reply

theres only 5 to 8 of these movies released per year and mostly they are star studded movie, for example rowdy rathore came in June and in the same month there are vicky onar, shanghai etc. so Bollywood is doing every genre of cinema's and masala being just star studded movie.

Well I'm European, I'm used to European and US movies, and I liked Rowdy Rathore. Many Indians are always complaining about how ridiculous their cinema looks next the western cinemas. Like all the Ra.One haters... the same Ra.One that received mostly good reviews from western critics. I find this annoying.

What's there to hate in Rowdy Rathore? Music, choreography and artistic direction: first class. Nice actors. GOOD direction. Humour. And there's a plot.

Oh yes, there's a plot. It seems some people are idiotic to the point that they don't understand there's a plot if there's also cartoonesque action. Probably these people have difficulty to walk and chew gum at the same time.

I'm not that fond of the masala stuff, I wasn't waiting much at all from Rowdy Rathore. But I was agreably surprised by the technicality of the direction, and most of all the plot that was rather unpredictable and had originality.
The no brainer humour and cartoonesque violence or scenes doesn't take that away from the movie. Ever seen Tex Avery cartoons? They're highly respected cartoons. It's the same kind of scenes in Rowdy Rathore. You can do whatever you want in a movie. Because it's not animated doesn't mean you can't rely on a kind of humour/action you more often find in animated movies.

Compare with another masala thing like Ready. Ready was just blah. There was a very thin plot. Still an acceptable no brainer entertainment, but...

Even for something I didn't like much at all like Ready I won't say it's crap. Because I respect the work of the team behind the movie. It's a super light film with cartoon qualities that I'm sure kids love (anyway kids love Salman, this explains that).

By the way, "superhit" is not a consideration. If the movie make a certain amount of money then it's a superhit.
