I really enjoyed this documentary

I thought it was interesting hearing her (and some of her colleague's) own words. And having famous people act the letters out added to the enjoyment.

It does make me wonder, though: They said she had just re-signed with Fox for that well-desired $1M payday (like they were already paying Elizabeth Taylor, and which they said Marilyn had really fought for), so why would she commit suicide? They even read her letter to Lee about how she was going to start her own production company, and how he would have an important part in that company.

Seems kind of fishy to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm someone who has suffered from depression, and I can understand the loneliness part. But, just getting a big fat payday (she went from $100K for Something's Gotta Give to $1M) and making legitimate plans for the future with her lawyers, that doesn't seem like a suicidal state-of-mind.

It was never established whether Monroe committed suicide, accidentally overdosed or was murdered by the Kennedy family.

According to her autopsy, there was a bruise in her armpit that many have surmised was where she was injected with an overdose of barbiturates. The contents of her stomach did not contain bits of undigested capsules which is common in pill overdoses. Conspiracy theorists believe the Kennedy family had her murdered because she was about to expose her affairs with Jack and Bobby. There are unverified claims by witnesses that Marilyn was seen in Los Angeles at the beach in Malibu with Bobby Kennedy a few days before her death. Also, Peter Lawford was in Los Angeles at the time of her death, and supposedly was seen around Brentwood. Much has been written about this, so if interested, Google it.

However, despite her undeniably troubled life, it was never been established that Marilyn committed suicide.

Most people assume it was an accidental overdose of pills.

Big Marilyn fan here. I always thought she was murdered.

I remember Unsolved Mysteries doing a thing on this, and looking at the circumstances, I would agree that she was murdered. Although, I know the common theories are either accidental overdose or suicide.

Sad really, especially since Jack seemed to parade a load of women in and out of the White House, and people seemed to know about it.

Dr. Curphy from the coroner's office is in the film stating that it is suicide. That was the ruling...of course, we'll never know the truth but that was the official word.

Here's an interesting article on it:

As many said, I don't think the cause of death was ever officially documented. It might have been suicide or an accidental overdose. I know there were also rumors about it perhaps being murder.

I know there are conspiracy theorists that believe the Kennedy's were involved, but this documentary shows a picture of Marilyn as someone who wasn't stupid and I don't believe she would have spilled anything regarding her alleged relationship with either brother. But that's just me. Who knows.

I really enjoyed this too and for the most part found the actors reading her words enchanting and enlightening, especially when juxtaposed well with some biographical information that I never knew. Like how little she was making compared to Liz Taylor, her relationship with the Greenes, her first attempt at a production company, and the well-chosen video clips of her awkwardness in interviews and press conferences. I found this documentary quite informative, which is something special considering how much is already out there on Marilyn Monroe. The format was also quite unique in that what's so fascinating about Marilyn Monroe is what was going on inside her head, and now we can actually hear her own words.

I never really thought she killed herself, and that payday just confirms it. Either accidental OD (combined with a negligent, enabling, Conrad Murray-like doctor) or Kennedy murder conspiracy.

Annoying! That's what I thought of the actresses reading her words. They looked like they were trying to live up to the "glam" that Marilyn portrayed. Didn't work for me. So annoying. The hair styles, the looks, the intonations. I would have preferred if they just read and were not in view! Then it would have seemed more authentic and sincere. But then what was ever allowed to be sincere or authentic regarding Marilyn Monroe! She was I believe......a delicate creature....who knows....life, media, moguls, users.....destroyed her.
