What's with the bad rating? I loved it.
Although I've been getting into Norwegian cinema recently, I purposefully avoided this one for a while because of it's bad imdb score. When I finally got around to watching it I kept thinking to myself "This is pretty good so far, but it will probably start to suck soon". Cut to the end, (Spoilers) it never sucked! In fact I was thoroughly entertained the whole way through. The name pretty much sums it up, it's an escape movie, along the lines of Apocalypto. If you liked Apocalypto I see no reason why you shouldn't like this movie. Of course it's not perfect, so I'll address the bad aspects first. First off, some parts are cheesy, but in my mind they are no more cheesy than other films of this genre. To use the same comparison (Apocalypto), was it likely that a scrawny hunter-gatherer could escape hardened Mayan warriors? No it wasn't, but you probably justified it the same way I did, he got lucky. The same is true of the protagonists of this film, they get very lucky. Aside from that this film has a lot of positives, namely the cinematography. If you'd like to see plenty of gorgeous shots of a Norwegian landscape, this film provides tons. Not to mention the acting is pretty damn good, I believed all the main characters and their motivations. It's also written well, keeping in mind it's a very simple story, and the editing/pacing is perfect. In short, believe the hype. This film is definitely worth a watch in my book. I have no idea why it's rated so low.
