Quite bad, unfortunately *Spoilers*

The biggest problem with this movie is that most of the characters do stupid things pretty much all the time. Some might find that entertaining, but I simply find it annoying.

Signe and Frigg behaved like sheep when running from the band of killers. As soon as they could no longer see them, they believed they were safe and starting walking in a relaxed manner. Seriously? Nobody is that stupid. When staying at the cabin, did they really not expect the band to come?

And the twist at the end where Signe suddenly found it in her to go after the rest of the band and kill them was ridiculous.

I wish these film makers would get their heads out of the their ***** and start writing proper stories not filled with morons.

This is such a waste of money and talent. Do not expect anything even remotely close to the quality of Veiviseren (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093668).

I did enjoy the movie overall, but I agree (the simple storyline was flawed). Just to play devil's advodcate, I'll just comment that it's strange how many times even true survival stories don't follow a neat, logical, linear path. It's just that stressed people are not always rational, at least in my experience. It's too bad because this was a wasted opportunity to make a great Norwegian historical adventure.

*************************** TEXT HAS SPOILERS **********************

You complain Signe and Frigg behave like sheep. Well, they are. They are two little girls supposed to rest at moms breast. And considering that they behave quite tough. Dont forget they moved through the scandinavian mountainscape, that is wasteland wihtout any chance to survive longer than a few days without deep survival knowledge. And they were exhausted and hungry. Wouldn't you head to the cabin too? This part of the plot isnt that absurd i think.
Even Dagmars devious step not to kill Signe at the end seems feasible retrospectively, because she is a mother that lost her child and as Frigg called her mom she was stunned and happy.
And besides that the camera, the landscape and the makeup was pretty good i think.

********************* SPOILER TO Veiviseren **************************

EDIT: Just watched Veiviseren. It feels quite realsitic. But has logical flaws too. The lad survives a big avalanche many experienced men die in. Sure! And on top of that the leader of the gang trusts him in guiding them to the valley. At his place i would have sent out two of my fierce fellows and the lad to find a save way down.

First off, I'm not saying that some people aren't sheep, and that nobody would ever do anything stupid, I'm saying it's bad entertainment and sloppy storytelling.

The problem wasn't that they headed for the cabin, the problem was that they stayed there apparently thinking the band of killers were no longer a threat. Realistically, the guy living there should have been smart enough to understand that they were in danger and would have made them get the h*ll out of there, but no, he was just as stupid.

Veiviseren is at a completely differenty level, there is no comparison. It is known as one of the greatest norwegian movies ever made, whereas Flukt has already been forgotten.

It's not necessarily unrealistic that they would trust him to guide them, but they weren't prepared for him risking his life to kill them.
They didn't have time to have two guys find a way down, and then go up again and lead the others, so that point is moot.

I haven't seen the movie Veiviseren so I don't have any way to compare the two movies as of yet. I did like this movie though. I don't know why you seem to dislike it so intensely and I don't agree with your assessment.

I didn't see it the way you saw it. What I saw was two young girls who were getting very tired after running from the band of killers and were slowing down due to exhaustion. Just because we don't see them at a full out run the entire time before coming upon the cabin does not mean they weren't running most of that time as the day went on. I am sure they were hoping that taking refuge in the cabin would at least give them time to rest before the gang caught up with them and Signe even stated they were going to rest for the night and then continue on the next day. The only thing I saw wrong with the part about staying at the cabin was lighting the fire which had to have been visible even if just through the cracks in the walls. But, since these were young girls and the older girl said she had no experience in surviving in the wild, staying warm was probably more on her mind and that did not occur to her.

The problem wasn't that they headed for the cabin, the problem was that they stayed there apparently thinking the band of killers were no longer a threat. Realistically, the guy living there should have been smart enough to understand that they were in danger and would have made them get the h*ll out of there, but no, he was just as stupid.

The guy living there DID understand they were in danger. He said he would take them to the village (presumably that day although it did not specify). It did not seem to me he was the type of person to not be aware of danger since he pretty much lived out in the wild. I took it that he had returned from hunting to find the girls in his cabin (or at least the cabin he had taken over) and he was aware of the danger and thought it would be best if he got them to the village where they could find someone to help them better than he could as he said the village was two days walk and offered to take them there. I suppose since he didn't immediately start them out walking you think he thought it was OK for them to stay there? The whole part where they spent the night at the cabin and then the man offered to walk them to the village took place in the span of hours. The gang tracked them down early the next morning and they were all eating and had not had time to actually start off on the trek to the village.

I just did not see the problems you saw. I see a lot of things in movies that are stupid behaviors but most of what you point out would be considered normal for the people in the circumstances they were in.

And the twist at the end where Signe suddenly found it in her to go after the rest of the band and kill them was ridiculous.

That was not a twist. That was a progression of her character having to grow up and get stronger, develop a backbone and become determined to save the little girl from the "witch" after the little girl had saved her life. That happens a lot in movies and in real life when someone has been faced with adversity and they refuse to give up.

You're a true Captain Hindsight here, and I have you suspected to be a "city-dweller" with little wildnerness experience.

Two girls, who first walked up one mountain, descends, walks up the next, and you complain about them not keeping a high pace... They then kill a pursuiter due to him being realistcly distracted (whether its realistic to drop ones sword is another matter). Frozen and starving, they seek refuge in a shelter (clever move, no dry timber outside = no fire without a shelter).

Nothing about their decisions in escaping was unrealistic the slightest, people with experience in the mountains here will agree.

This clearly shows you've never been mountain trekking.

Suspect all you want, but I've had my share of mountain hiking. Probably more than you.

The girls stop fearing their followers will catch up, so they start walking slowly like they don't have a care in the world. Only stupid people, or sheep, think they're safe just because they can't see their enemy with their eyes.

Frozen and starving, they seek refuge in a shelter (clever move, no dry timber outside = no fire without a shelter).

Finding shelter was not the problem. Staying there until the bad guys have time to catch up, is.

This clearly shows you've never been mountain trekking.

This comment clearly shows you think you know more than you do.

I live in the Norwegian mountains, going up a mountain takes hours. Not having seen your pursuiters for hours is a good time to slow the pace, since as you would know, mountain trekking is exhausting - especially for kids who travel slowly. So yes, i doubt you have wilderness experience. If you've ever bern truly hungry, truly tired and truly cold, you would know that you'd done the same.

”As soon as they could no longer see them, they believed they were safe and starting walking in a relaxed manner.”

Did you expect them to run the entire time? They did make it to the cabin, after all.

”When staying at the cabin, did they really not expect the band to come?”

They were resting at the cabin for the night. There was no indication they were going to stay there.

”And the twist at the end where Signe suddenly found it in her to go after the rest of the band and kill them was ridiculous.”

You mean the part where Signe goes out to save Frigg, after Frigg had surrendered to Dagmar in an attempt to save Signe’s life?

You mean kids (really scared kids at that) sometimes do stupid things? Shocking!
Really, what an incredibly dumb reason to hate on this movie. This terrible ''review'' didn't need its own thread.

If you've heard of it, it's already too mainstream for me.

You know, it's not unusual to sleep 8 hours each night. That still doesn't make it interesting to watch.

Bad storytelling is still bad storytelling.

The girls were only planning on staying in the cabin until morning and then keep on going. The guy promised to take them to the village the next day but obviously they didn't have the chance.
As far as Signe going back why do you have a problem with that? She wasn't afraid to speak her mind when tied up. The little girl risked her own life to free her. Signe killed the guy on the log bridge and the guy with the rock, one of the toughest of them. Outside the cabin she swore to never abandon the little girl. She knew Dagmar was not her real mother and the little girl at the cliff was willing to go with them if they let Signe live. She felt guilt with what happened to her little brother and was not going to live with abandoning the girl. She knew at the cliff there were only 3 adults left and planned to take them out one at a time. She was also banking on them underestimating her.
She knew she had the little girl on her side and she had been a distraction before, the guy with the rock to the head. The little girl knew how much the woman needed her and how much she wanted her to call her mommy. Well planning, traps and stealing weapons she knew how to use, on Signes part and a lot of luck helped her save the girl. She was ready to die trying.

reply

The biggest plot failing to me is that I find it far fetched to think that a little girl, having lived with this tribe since before she had any memory.....10 years at least would chose to go with a stranger she had known for one day......yeah, the tribe was murderous, but that's what she grew up with, to her that was normal...

Um...try running through the forest and see how long you can keep it up, lol. Adrenaline only takes you so far. When the immediate danger was over, yes, they slowed their pace.

Obviously the man in the cabin was not expecting the girls to be found so quickly. Dagmar and her clan had the whole of the Norwegian wilderness to look through. The only reason they even knew where to look was because they happened to have a man who'd been on the run before and was thus able to think like the girls would think. Neither the girls nor the man had any reason to expect the members of the clan would be expert trackers who could pinpoint their exact location within thousands of miles of forest in a matter of hours. They were planning on leaving for a nearby village soon, so obviously the man was thinking that it would be best to get them out of the cabin. They weren't staying there indefinitely.

And as pointed out before, Signe's decision to rescue Frigg was not a "twist". It was the logical progression of her character arc.
