Has your opinion about a designer changed?

As I was watching the fairy tale challenge tonight it struck me that my opinion regarding certain designers has changed from their first appearances on PR.

I feel more positive about Ken. I get that he is a temperamental diva (and it looks like that may play a big part in next week's episode), but I feel like his looks are stronger this go around. Also, the way he was instigating the Kini/Sam stuff made me chuckle.

On the other hand, my opinion about Kini changed in a negative way from his season. I LOVED Kini. I was surprised when Sean won over him during their season. His ideas seemed fresh; his point of view interesting. He did things I'd never seen on the show before. And man, does the boy know how to use denim!! But now, he's STILL that same designer. I don't see any growth. He's done that lampshade technique (not sure what else to call it) on at least three challenges. He's never met a ruffle he didn't like. And the denim is just overkill. I feel like he needs to stop living in the past ("I won THREE challenges during MY season!") and stop worrying about what Sam is doing and start focusing on where he's going as a designer.

Anyway, just my two cents :)

I couldn't agree more about Kini. What a chip on his shoulder. A stilted designer and horribly bitter soul. He seemed more carefree and easygoing on his regular season. Now all his stuff looks absurd and old at the same time.

I totally agree with you regarding Ken. I'm enjoying him this season both design and personality wise. Kini seems like his heart is not into this season but I still like him.

It's called cartridge pleating, and not only did he not invent it, it was done by other PR designers before Kini ever surfaced. The winning dress in the newspaper challenge in season 6 had a cartridge-pleated skirt.

I couldn't tolerate Ken on his season, what jackass behavior from an adult!
He seems much less intense now, supportive and genuinely happy for the winners (well some of them).
I also think his designs are much better than before-really liked the pink neoprene dress, and also the white skirt and hoodie design he made for that guy in the nude people challenge.
But on the previews for next week, looks like he might be up to his old tricks, storming off in a huffy snit!

Well not quite. Actually Irina won that challenge with her newspaper coat. Shirin designed the cartridge pleated dress you're thinking of and although she didn't win the challenge she scored pretty high with it.

You're right. Senior memory glitch there. But either way, the cartridge pleating made it to the PR runway long before Kini showed up.

Ah, cartridge pleating. Thanks :)
I do remember that now, the challenge with the newspapers.

I have to agree about Ken. He's really doing well and I'd say is a real contender for the win, if he can get his stuff together next episode.

As far as Kini, I think the producers are asking leading questions of both Kini and Sam and they're editing in this drama. I love Kini, but I think he's focusing too much on Sam. I don't like Sam, so he can focus on the ceiling tile for all I care, but Kini needs to worry about himself - or Dom's going to come sneaking in and snake the win from him.
Or Ken will.

I adore Ken. He seems to be in a better place this go around - he's still spicy but more zen.

reply

Did not like Ken on his original season at all but he seems to have grown a lot. I like how he felt a diva moment coming on and removed himself from the situation so he didn't go off on anyone.

Probably could have won if something as simple occurred like someone having red thread for him to use! No one seems to do him any favors, but that overrated snowflake, Layana couldn't wait to rip off his white leather when he returned! If she had left her top all white, she might have survived! She always over-thinks her designs and puts too much into them! When will she learn? ;-/
