You are an established "name" designer

and you have to hire one of these designers: Sam, Ken or Kini?

You know you have to deal with them every day. They have to follow your instructions. You are the boss. They need to keep a positive attitude and they need to not bad mouth you to others. They need to keep a secret. They need to be a team player. You're giving them an opportunity in the industry.

Which one would you hire?

And there you have why Sam will be successful in the industry, and Kini and Ken will not be, unless they get very, very lucky with sponsorship. Neither one of them has that much (Dom or Dimitri level) talent for that, so I think they are destined to be very frustrated mean little men. Sam may never be a known designer, but he can have a great career and a great life. Not so much the other two.

reply

Well, I guess you're entitled to your opinion. Kini and Ken are both really good designers and would do great work at any fashion house.
Sam would probably live a good life like you said, as long as his looks held, and there were desperate fleshy old creepy men like Mizrahi wanting to support him for favors granted!
(and that's MY opinion!)

reply

I am in agreement with sultry.

That kid has no shame, no talent and NO CLASS.

What a joke this season is.

reply

Definitely not Kini or Ken. Too big of egos. Too sensitive. Can't let things go.

I guess I'd hire Sam, but I wouldn't pay him very much.

reply

I'd hire Ken. I despised him during his first season but he's way more calm this season. If I had to deal with Sam I'd slit my wrist and Kini's designs are way too old looking for me.

reply

How about a fourth choice: Dom.

And seriously you think Sam has a nicer attitude and would not bad mouth you behind your back? Did we miss the episode where Mitchell called Sam out, because Sam had written a blog about Mitchell, saying that he is a horrible designer.

Yes Mitchell's outfit weren't the greatest but he did make a few really good designs and just needs to spend more time practicing.

And when Mitchell called him out, Sam acted like it was totally acceptable and really at the end of the day it is NOT acceptable to say nasty things about another person, just because you don't like their designs.

So I respectfully disagree.

reply

Dom was not an option. Of course Dom would be the best choice.

No, "we" did not miss that episode (seems "we" all have a little Sam in us, doesn't it?), Sam was pretty harsh with Mitchell on his blog. I didn't read all of the blogs but I looked back and read enough to get the gist of it. It's a blog, it's bitchy and shady, and pretty clever. My impression of it is more that Sam was blogging a little out of his station. He's not that advanced himself to be talking smack about other designers. He does shade himself also, when appropriate. I really get the impression from Sam that in his mind it's more "shady" than "nasty".

I also feel that when a person is more beautiful, more clever, and more privileged than the average, that person needs to be really careful throwing shade on those less blessed, because it only comes off as heartless and cruel. Had I followed Sam's blog prior to watching this season of All Stars (I had never even heard of him), I admit I would have been less sympathetic. Sam is reaping what he sewed (ha ha) for sure.

Kini all day long. His construction is flawless and he's a pretty positive guy.

Let's not forget that Sam brought these "attacks" on himself by claiming credit for Kini's work and not even thanking him for being a great partner. Sam also made the comment during judging of his lace dress that "I (Sam) had this idea to use cutouts of the lace flowers to cover strategic areas." An idea that DOM gave him in conversation. Sam also made comments about flirting with the judges to get good favor.

Kini didn't just start bashing Sam out of the blue. None of them did.

reply

Okay so the designer brings in his cute new boyfriend, or worse yet, starts a new cute guy on a job at the firm.

How does Kini react?

reply

Well, does the new cutie take credit for Kini's designs? Again, Sam started it. He "poked the bear" so to speak. Kini didn't just start attacking Sam out of the blue.
Also, not everyone thinks Sam is cute.

reply

Manufactured drama. Ugh.

His construction is flawless and he's a pretty positive guy.

You think Kini seems positive?? He seems hugely negative towards Sam. Whether you feel his dislike for Sam is justified, he's completely obsessed with his resentment towards him. Not generally a characteristic person with and overall positive outlook. Even on his own season, he kept getting caught up when he felt he didn't get his fair share of credit.

But his construction is great. And he's quick. As a designer, he leaves me a little bored, though. A bit dated.

reply

Well, if someone took credit for something YOU made, wouldn't you be a little cheesed off about it? Kini is human. YES, I do think he is a positive person.

reply

I also would select Kini. He takes direction well and has great skills.
Although often his designs are overdone and excessive, I think if he was paired with right mentor, he would really shine

And every cat in the twilight’s gray,
Every possible cat."
