How many gates did they go through?

I think we only see them physically go through 2 gates. Maybe 3 if you include the "Portal."

Did they go through the 5th gate? James awakens in a distorted time; Sara continues...into the 6th Gate..?

In one scene James awakens in a snow covered forest. Later he awakens in the forest without snow.
