He's the writer of the song "My way"...
Présent in Paris for a european Tour, Paul Anka heard the song in the radio and called him to ask whether he could write an english version for Sinatra (also sang by Elvis)... which the young Claude accepted !
Then it became "My Way"...

About 2/3rds into the film I remember who he was by his death, which was reported widely in the UK and which my mum told me about to warn me of the perils of touching a light when hands were wet.
