I'm half Asian and half White and found show LAME!

I don't know what it is about this show. It comes off as unoriginal, boring, desperate, and lame. I caught it one night and kept watching because I could relate to the whole multi-racial storyline. But where is the effort at the script? The first two episodes seem like the cast is boring and nothing was really that funny. The mom has some wack accent and the whole storyline is stupid. He owns a bar in Pittsburgh. Seriously?

People making sitcoms need to take a class and watch all 180 episodes of Seinfeld. Seinfeld was great because it was original and the writing was epic. This new show is a copy of so many shows in the past and the writing is lame.

Would not be surprised if this show doesn't make it through the 1st season.

I was barely able to get through the pilot.

I'm Asian American and I thought the jokes were not only unfunny but at times offensive. Asian people don't think white people are dumb but that seems to be a theme on that show. Also I don't see how this show could last for more than 1 season without people saying "I am so sick of watching the same losers sitting around at a bar all day long".

I'm all Asian American and started watching this show without any idea of the premise and after some cringing, found that I also guffawed at times. Not many recent shows have done that. I don't mind the stereotypical jokes as they're not mean spirited. I guess that's what tips the show into a 'like,' for me. Being from Hawaii, with a ethnic mixture, friends would rag each other's ethnicity, but it was done as friends. And the casting doesn't bother me, although I wish the sister had better lines. It's strange but I started looking past the color and started seeing the lines as coming from the characters, the hard a**ed mother, the softer father, slacker friends and enjoyed the show more. There are many jokes that fall flat or elicit a groan, but just as many that are zingers for me.

I'm fourth generation but also nearly 60, so my perspective might be different. I also live in Japan with a Japanese wife (no kids, what would they have been?) and I've seen much worse here and back home on TV.

And it's not too often that you see a mixture of people like this that are mostly in the same boat.

I look forward to seeing more of this show.

I agree. I'm half Korean and also thought I might be able to relate to the main character but I find myself cringing. The jokes are too heavy handed, not really funny and too in-your-face. And also, just a hint to the show, Korean moms don't constantly insult white people to their face in English. They either wait until they're not around or make snide remarks in Korean!

It's so bad and not funny. I'm not Asian, but I can see how Asians would be offended by this. What offends me is how stupid and not funny it is. What would they do without the canned laughs?

As a mixed race American of Filipino and white decent I really am not
at all impressed with this sitcom. I watched all of the 1st season
and didn't find the episodes funny. Yes Steve Byrne is talented
with Dan Hedaya as his dad though the rest of the cast is just so
stereotypical and here's why:

1. Steve's obnoxious mother who speaks with a typical, heavy accent.

2. His sister who doesn't look mixed race at all and they have
the same parents.

3. The loud and obnoxious bar patrons like Brian Doyle-Murray
and Valery Azynn who seem to speak the usual and predictable
lines of dialogue.

4. I actually enjoyed the recent episode "Ladies Night" which
Steve hosted in an effort to attract more single women. And
the guest star Kunal Nayyar from The Big Bang Theory played
a very funny character too.
