Why don't Steve and Valerie get together?
Here are some more suggestions for the show.
I know this is a stretch, but they might be able to make this into a 'Cheers' style comedy. It'll take a lot of work but with a few tweaks and determination I think they can do it.
1. Have most of the scenes take place in an iconic bar filled with regulars who all know each other.
2. Have one of the regulars be there almost all of the time, sitting on a bar stool like Norm did, maybe Hank Murphy's character can pull that off.
3. With a little work, Steve could be more like Sam Malone if he plays his part a little more straight and serious and has a budding romance with one of the regulars. He could even have a similar back story where he gave up another career to become a bartender / owner.
4. We need a Woody character, any thoughts? I was thinking that Owen might be able to pull it off.
5. We need a civil servant type, like Cliff from Cheers, or at least someone who has a semi-gov't job. Hmmm ... Valerie?
This has nothing to do with Cheers but to make the show really great, play up Owen's mom's sexuality. I mean nothing is more hot then hearing about a senior citizen describe her sex acts in every episode. We need more Carol Owen.
