Mom's accent
How believable is it that her accent would still be so thick and would still make so many mistakes after being married to an American for 37+ years?

shareVery believable. My Mother has a friend that came here from France as a war bride...she's been here 60+ years and still has a thick French accent.
I also have an aunt that came from Germany as a war bride...she still speaks with a thick German accent.
My mom is Korean, emigrated to the U.S. 33 years ago. She speaks English well but still has a very noticeable accent. The only reason the mom's accent in the show sounds wrong to me is because she is not doing a very good Korean accent. She sounds nothing like my mother, her Korean friends, my aunts, uncles or any other Korean person I've heard to whom English is a second language.
shareJodi Long...the actress that plays the mom used the same exaggerated accent when she was on All-American Girl....I don't know why she's doing that. She was born in New York City...
I've seen her on other shows and she speaks English with no accent...
I guess she thinks it's funny.
Seriously? It's not her choice, it's the role for which she was cast. In both of those examples, she played an immigrant. Most immigrants have accents, and since both were in comedies, the accent is played up for laughs.
You really couldn't figure that out? I'm not trying to put you down, I'm actually amazed.

I think the Mom is pretty good. I know it is supposed to be a generic sit com but what I have a problem with is that this is supposed to be Pittsburg. Most of the characters are old 2nd city players that don't even try to hide their Chicago accents and they wear cub hats sometimes. At the bar there is one obscure reference to Roberto Clemente an old Pirate. But no reference to the Steelers (they had one lamp with the Steeler insignia but not this season. Come on no self respecting bar near Pittsburg would not have a bunch of Steeler stuff and stuff dissing the Bengals and Browns.
shareOh sorry I was wrong Roberto Clemente was a Cub- my point exactly.
shareSorry tazzo34 but you were right the first time. Roberto Clemente played his entire major league career with the Pittsburg Pirates from 1955 through 1972 until he was killed in a plane crash during the off season bringing humanitarian aid to Nicaraguan earthquake victims. He did play one year in the minor leagues for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Pirates drafted him out of the Dodger organization under what is called the "Rule 5 Draft".

Good point

That's enough letters for three words.
