Did anyone else find Ruth's age distrcating?

Yes, I know James Cromwell's character was supposed to be 87 (even though the actor was 72 when it was filmed) ... and the actress who played Ruth was made up to look like she was in her early 60's (or at least I HOPE she was, as in real life, she is in her mid 40's, lol).

I didn't find it distracting; at least no more distracting than James Cromwell and Genevieve Bujold playing characters in their 80s when they're both in their 70s. I know Julie Stewart (we share the same name and middle initial, although I can't seem to find out if her 'A.' stands for Anne, as mine does) was in her mid 40s when the film was made, but I don't think she looked to be in her early 60s. I'd say mid 50s maybe. My mother is in her mid 60s, and while I think she looks great, she looks older than Ruth in the movie. Also, we have to assume Ruth's lived a pretty hands-on lifestyle like her parents - farming, etc. - which I imagine would factor into a person's appearance.

To be honest I never really got distracted by anything in this movie.

I accept casting isn't going to be perfect, and the story will occasionally stray from the real deal, but as long as I spend the time being entertained then I'm happy.
8/10 a good job by all.

So true. Folks so often focus on things irrelevant that they skip over the entire "entertainment" factor. And for what? So they can make an appearance on some online forum and complain about a plot hole, a person's age, a vehicle that had not been made yet, a gun that incorrectly configured, etc.

Not distracted in the slightest. But if I think about what I just watched, Ruth appeared middle-aged - perhaps late 40's to early 50's at the most. Her character is a hard-working farm woman with no makeup and in jeans, which may've left a more mature impression on you. Even if she was actually 60, the math works. The Morrison's were married 64 years in this film, which means their oldest daughter, Ruthie, could easily be older in real-life.
