Very engaging film

I am not a fan of performance art, but I was fascinated by this documentary. I can understand why some other posters commented about M.A.'s "pretentiousness," but for me, she was not really the main focus of the film--the performance was. It was the moments at MoMA where they focused on the audience that I found really engaging, especially the moments with no voice-over, no music, just visuals of the people that sat across from her.

I thought the audience members who visited at that start of the exhibit were much more genuine, and their reactions seemed more real. By the end of the exhibit, it seemed like people came just to be part of the hype, not because they had any real interest in Marina or her work. You could tell some people were worked up to cry before they even sat down.

I love the whole idea of Marina's art making people slow down and be still, which really is something we rarely do today. I was not moved by any of her other work, but this piece at MoMA was incredible. Something that could never be repeated or replicated. I do agree that some of the moments in the film seemed somewhat scripted, but there were many moments that were very raw and real, and that made this film a success for me.

I thought this documentary was fascinating. The viewers reaction to art, the statement it makes about what art is, the performance of art, and the commitment of the artist, Marina, it was all so magnificent.
I love your response to the film, jojomitty!
