Very Bad Things is Better

If you want to watch this movie, may I make a suggestion and implore you to instead watch Very Bad Things. It's the same story with modifications to script and setting, but essentially it's the same film. The difference is, Very Bad Things is way funnier and darker, it's way more interesting in both script and characterization, has way better acting and writing, and way better directing and editing too.

Jon Farvreau, Cameron Diaz, Jeremy Piven, Daniel Stern, Leland Orser, and Christian Slater (who is actually good in this role) make up the cast. The director and writer of Very Bad Things is Peter Berg. Compare that to the cast of Tyler Labine, Malin Akerman, Dan Petronijevic, and Lucy Punch. Also note that Cottage Country was written and directed by two men who've only worked on TV productions before, and this is their first foray into film.

What was your part in it?

reply

Haha! While the OP does sound like they were involved somehow in Very Bad Things, he/she is right.

Cottage Country was OK, but it is a lame and less interesting version of VBT. It's in my top 100 and, if you haven't seen it yet, I urge you to seek it out and check for yourself. I'm sure it must have been a big influence on The Hangover.

Agreed. It's like someone in Hollywood said "let's do VBT, but low budget. A handful of speaking roles and one location."

Can you say "Green light"???

It's like someone in Toronto said "let's do VBT, but low budget -- as much as the local film credits can net us.

Spock! Form an away team! You, me, Bones, Scotty and umm... Ensign Smith!

I didn't like VBT or this and would struggle to choose the better movie. As far as Cottage Country is concerned I was very dissapointed and expected a great deal more. It started off well enough but then as it descended further into its "Black" comedy credentials it lost any sense of humour and became rather uncomfortable to watch. Damn shame as I rate Labine as a strong actor, especially a comedic one but this was just piss poor as best

Not a fan of Very Bad Things but I did love Cottage Country!

Very Bad Things is dog vomit. EVERYTHING is better than Very Bad Things. A divorce is better. A peniloscopy is better. The worst network sitcom ever made is better. This wretched site’s Politics section is better. Sex with Rebel Wilson is better. Eating at Subway is better.
