Really not that bad.

A lot of people have been complaining that this movie (and Part 2) really sucked. Truthfully, they were pretty good. While it's true they weren't as good as the anime/manga, nor did they meet my expectations, I still enjoyed them.

I think that's one of the biggest beefs people have with these movies. After a great anime/manga series, they set their expectations too high. When the movies didn't meet those expectations, and made several changes to the plot, they complained. But just because it didn't meet someone's expectations doesn't mean it was bad. Was I disappointed that it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be, of course, but that doesn't mean I didn't like it. These were good movies (though Part 2 wasn't as good as Part 1), even with the changes made to the plot.

If you wanted to see it, but changed your mind just because so many people have said it was bad, I say you should give it a chance. Don't go in expecting a masterpiece like the anime, but go in as if you would any other movie you only know about from the trailers.

This is like 99.9% of everything I think about people hating on this movie the only thing that is different from what you said is that I wasn't very disappointed because I read up on the movie before watching it and knew the story was a little different and enjoyed both parts even if part 2 wasn't as good still had fun with some friends watching them and they liked it to.

Agreed.

Having never watched the anime (as I'm not overly fond of the genre) I saw the first half of the live action film first. I actually enjoyed it immensely. Can't wait to see the conclusion. Until I do, I'm watching the anime now on Netflix and I'm finding that I do (strangely) enjoy it and much more so than the movie. But, I still like the movie for what it is.
