...why it was the Millers? Maybe I was refilling my drink during that part, but I don't remember any character ever explaining why the Scarecrow was after the Miller family. The shut-in farmer went over what happened to the Millers pretty thoroughly except for that one detail.
They never explained why the Scarecrow wants the Millers? Nor did they explain why the farmer spends time telling the Scarecrow's back story after he learns it has been unleashed. Nor did they explain why the farmer would stick around in a town where there's a demonic Scarecrow buried under a barn just a few miles down the road from him.
Apparently it's explained in the director's cut. The Miller's were the forefathers of the idea to contract overseas scarecrows to scare vermin from their fields, thus putting American scarecrows out of work and on hard times. The scarecrows of Miller's farm felt they were bamboozled into believing they would have secure jobs, as well as jobs for the scarecrow hatchlings(thru previous brother-in-law deals),convincing them from moving on to the more lucrative industries of boogey men and tooth fairies.
Yeah, that's pretty much the best explanation ever. I think I might even watch a sequel... if they'd let you write and direct based on that explanation.
It had Lacey Chabert in it. It had a pretty cool monster. It had a girl you love to hate who you cheered when she bought it. Who the heck cares about why? Just enjoy.
