Doesn't help Asian male / white female stereotypes

Some people complain we never see Asian men with white women in American media. However, this movie doesn't really help dispel stereotypes, either. I mean, come on. The Asian guy is very white-washed, and even worse, he's embodies many of the negative "jerk" stereotypes about American men in general (arrogant, doesn't make an effort to learn the local language, is dismissive about anything non-American, etc.). The white woman is very Asian-oriented (she studied Chinese in college, loves living in China, etc.). So what kind of message is the movie sending? When will we see a REALISTIC Asian-American man (still American, but is able to speak his heritage language and understands his parents' culture) with a REALISTIC white woman (one who isn't already immersed in Asian culture)?

Do they? Point them to The Walking Dead, currently one of the most popular shows in America.

This movie, Glen & Maggie on the walking dead and Jet Li/Carla Gugino in The One are the only AM/WF pairing in films I can think of. On the flipside there are a lot of AF/WM pairings.

Here is a better question, name some asian male sex symbols? I'm a straight black male, so I don't have a dog in this fight so to speak. Black makes fight the stereotype of being over sexed, where asian males are under sexed in their hollywood portrayals.

I guess they can't kung fu your ass & steal your girl......

Not sure if I like the OP's inference.

There's nothing wrong with Daniel Henney's character being a "jerk".

Being a "jerk" doesn't make a person any less Asian-American, or any less human than another, as we all have faults, much less small ones that make us "jerks" at times.

Just like being smart doesn't make a person "less black".
