What's with the Low ratings??

I downloaded this movie on torrent and watched it, this is a great movie!! I don't understand the low rating. It should be at least a 7.

The IMDb rating system is much abused by sock account-using people with various grudges, sometimes very personal ones. It doesn't affect mainstream films that attract tens of thousands of votes, but ballot stuffing can influence lesser known films like these.

I just saw this is available on Amazon Video on Demand. Maybe more people will see it now ... and vote the ratings up if they like it.

Not trying to annoy anyone here but this movie reminded me of alot of rom coms I've seen before. From the way things happened and the things they say. I didn't really like the pairing between the two main characters much to be honest. There was this one scene focused on them just talking and it felt boring and dragged on for too long. I thought the way Amanda reacted to Sam going back to America was just pseudo drama. I wonder how many expats she has dated that went back has caused her to be so utterly devastated whenever she hears this news.

I personally prefer Fang Fang more. She was drop dead gorgeous the moment she appeared on camera but she has her share of "pseudo drama" as well. Like the scene in the car where she has to explain why she has a second job. First of all, what's the big deal? Why was Sam so mad about it? Why did she had to be so ashamed? The fact she comes from a poor family? He demanded that she should've told him but I don't see how it's any of his business. She's working as a waitress at a karaoke bar on the side. It's not glamorous but it's not like she was a hostess. If it was about damaging the law firm's reputation then Sam is being really conservative. He wasn't in love with her either. Also, her explanation why was stupid. I could accept it if she actually said she was paying herself through law school but it was because she needed extra money to pay for clothes and make up to keep up her image at work so her co-workers don't make fun of her.

I don't buy her not having a crush on Sam at all. She supported him just because she simply wanted to see him succeed was ridiculous. She barely met the guy and he was bossy to her most of the time. Although it's clique it would've made more sense if she did have romantic feelings for him and why she kept turning away Guang's advances. Her revealing at the end why she wouldn't date Guang because she didn't want him to know the "real" her was a cop out. Where did all this low self esteem came from? This was all done to help push for the interracial relationship between Sam and Amanda but it just made it seem so forced.

Anyway, Daniel Hsia definitely has charisma reminiscent of John Cusack and looks that would rival a young Andy Lau. Although, his acting in this movie sometimes do come off more like a series of facial expressions for the camera to show the audience how good looking he is. But, I think his performance at least proven that he can act and maybe someday we'll see him in bigger Hollywood roles in the future. Preferably as a lead love interest.

It was cute. It felt like a modern Doris Day movie, like Pillow Talk or similar, but not quite as good. I loved the photography, Shanghai certainly has some interesting architecture, both old and new. And everyone in the movie was very attractive. Some things didn't work too well- Awesome Wang didn't seem too awesome considering how quickly he reached the point of, "I'm out of ideas." The actor was fine, his material was bad. Fang Fang's story was confusing, though her family was cute. Bill Paxton's character seemed random, not enough for him to do - the election was kinda pointless. But hopefully it means that movies in the same vein, but better will come along.

The only movies that have high ratings are the ones that inspire a lot of fanboy'dom or classics. I don't even bother paying attention to the ratings anymore.
