'regular sane prepper' is spot on.
You are crazy if you spend your life preparing for a specific disaster that is highly unlikely, which is exactly what a 'Doomsday' prepper is doing.
In my local area we have encountered power cuts, rising food prices, ever colder winters, ever hotter summers, rising fuel costs and rioting. There is also a high risk of flooding, although I haven't been directly affected by this yet. Not exactly a Solar Flare, but people have died, children are going hungry and livelihoods have been destroyed.
I consider myself a prepper, because I don't want my family and I to go without food, water, shelter or security, ever. This is a perfectly rational response to events which have affected me in the past, events which are affecting me now, and events which will certainly affect me in the future.
