The doll...

I was frustrated when the prosecutor asked what Marco's favorite toy was and the answer was his doll. As if him having a doll was a result of the *bad* influence in the home.

....but he owned that doll before he even met them! Why didn't he point that out?!?!?

There was no reason to point that out. You can't win against single minded ignorance like that. They didn't care about Marco, they just wanted to restrict 2 men from raising him. Nothing they said mattered because the entire system was against them.

There's every reason to point that out against a lawyer, because it isn't the lawyer who decides… The lawyer is only gathering details for a verdict, they aren't making the decision themselves.

The idea, I think, is for it to occur to you, as it does to him, that it is pointless; you even see it in his face, the realisation.

I was waiting for them to say he had the doll before he knew them. Very sad story but the performances were amazing and I'm glad I saw the film.

I agree.. I really wanted them to say he had the doll before he moved in with them but like someone else said.. They probably just realised the futility of it because of the prejudice.
