Finally got around to seeing this and it's really bad. The decision to get Taron Egerton to sing was a disaster. It was like Karaoke night. I'm an Elton John fan and wanted to hear him sing. Also most times one of his wonderful songs came on it was ruined. 2 out of 10 and I'm being generous.

Taron Egerton and the other cast members sing the songs due to the fact that this movie is a musical. If Taron just lip-synched, it wouldn't quite fit the musical style of the movie. I agree that his singing isn't as good as Elton's though and sometimes it made me cringe a little.

I thought it was great. I enjoyed Egerton's singing.

You wanted to hear Elton John sing? Were you also disappointed he didn't play himself in the movie? The point of a musical is that actors do the singing and while Egerton is a mediocre singer, his acting in this was phenomenal. Great film, exceeded my expectations, 8/10.
